2015 Blanket Party

Donation protected
Several years ago, the high school where I teach, decided to devote 10 minutes each day to a mentor period. We use this time to discuss a variety of subjects from grades to moral values.

Three years ago, my freshmen mentees decided to do a community service project. The students brainstormed and decided to make no-sew baby blankets for the YWCA’s teenage mother program. The students partnered with another class and were able to donate 15 blankets.

Last school year saw a new batch of freshmen ready to take over this worthy project. This time it grew to four mentor classes and we made about 50 blankets.  These blankets were donated to Children's Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio, via another community event held by a local restaurant and banquet facility, Top of the Market.
Top of the Market provided some of the fabric we needed for the blankets. We provided the labor and they provided the materials!

This year we would love to see every student in our high school participate in this program. Unfortunately, Top of the Market is not able to provide us with enough materials to make this happen.

One important thing to note: We do all of this over a period of a few weeks in 10 minute snips of time.

Each blanket requires two yards of fleece costing approximately $5.00 each. The students will also participate in a fund-raiser to earn money to help pay for the fabric needed for the blankets.

Please help us make 300 blankets by donating to our Blanket Party Fund!
