World Citizen Needs Help
Donation protected
Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time. I am raising money to pay off my last semester at the University of Minnesota for two reasons. First, I will have access to my transcript to apply to companies that require a transcript. Secondly, I will be able to register for my last semester to graduate with a Computer Engineering degree and a minor in math. I am incredibly grateful for every donation; every bit helps. Also please consider sharing my page with your networks. Those gestures of kindness are also very important in helping me reach my goal.
I was hesitant to make this gofundme but my situation has become very difficult. Growing up in West Africa, we were thought not to ask especially a man. It took me weeks trying to come up with an algorithm to fix my problem but coming up with a gofundme page end up becoming the best solution. How did I get to this stage? When I came to the United States to study. I didn't have money to go to school because of my family background. Here is the story in detail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjjKEFaJNVs
A family friend who knows my potential decided to help me register for classes. My goal was just to have an associate degree. During that period I won an award called the world citizen award which makes me well known in different colleges within Minnesota. I expected the scholarship to be huge but it was 500$. However, a professor decided to support me to pay for my first year in University. He passed away with cancer last summer. I had a good internship last summer with code2040 and Intel. My boos at Intel encourage me to extend my summer internship because of the impact and the amount of work I had in my team. I did work with Intel for 6 months but unfortunate circumstances happened. What really happened? My mum had diabetes and asthma. To have a good treatment you need a good doctor. From the background, I came from. Parents are very important in our lives. I was paying her medical bill for over 8 months. That was part of the reason I agreed to extend my internship with Intel and delayed my graduation. However, most of my money was spent on her medical bill. Around November, I heard that she wasn't getting better. I decided to go and visit her. Visiting Africa around December is ridiculously expensive because that's when most tourist visit. Ticket prizes triple. After I arrived she died 5 days after. I spent every last penny I heard at her funeral. A friend from the U.S helped me to buy a return ticket to the U.S. This is not a deed I regret but even though is part of the reason I still owe my school and have a hold in my account. It is something I am proud of. because I did it for my mum.
There is a reason I really want to finish my degree. I am the only one in my family to have a college education. I have mentored few people from Africa to study engineering. In my university, I am also part of the honors student. If anyone supports me just know that you are helping someone who will be the first in his family to have a college degree and to graduate with summa cum laude in his current university. $6300 is preventing me from achieving my goals.
Finally, I will like to thank a mentor and a friend. She is like a sister to me and she gave me to courage to start a gofundme page. Despite the fact, I don't have any family member in the U.S. She made me feel like I am not alone in my struggles.
Thank you all for reading and have a wonderful day.
