Lamar Woody has provided piano and voice lessons, and tutoring for the last several years in the Auburn/Opelika community. He has served as an instructor for private and group lessons at Spicer’s Music, Growing Room Child Development Center, has volunteered at Arbor Springs, and contributed to the Lakeview Strings Ensemble and Auburn University’s Music and Science community civic engagement projects. All of this while also pursuing his education at Auburn University in Interdisciplinary Studies- Human Development and Family Studies.
We have been lucky enough to get to know Lamar Woody over the last year, while working with Growing Room and the Music and Science course. He has welcomed AU students into his music lessons so we can better understand the benefits of musical training for young children. He is a wonderful male role model to the children he works with and is dedicated to enriching each of their lives with music.
For those of you who are not aware, over the last year Lamar has faced various neurological difficulties including frequent seizures and paralysis- drastically limiting his mobility. Due to his neurological issues and rehabilitation, he can no longer drive himself to work or his medical appointments and has had to medically withdraw from school and work, per medical recommendations.
To save costs, the family has had to pull their daughter out of preschool (temporarily) to offset the reduction of family income.
This go fund me goal, is to offset the current burden of lost wages, medical bills, and tuition to re-enroll Natalie in preschool. We hope very soon the pursuit in his medical treatment will enable him to be able to teach again, and with more ease by teaching from home. Eventually, Lamar would like to purchase more instruments so he can continue to do what he loves – teaching students the talent and joy of music. Additionally, the Woody family would appreciate your prayers at this time for the family and to guide the medical practitioners as they treat Lamar. Let us “Lift Lamar and his Family.”
