Help Rosemary and her Wonder Dogs

Donation protected
“Once you have had a wonderful dog. A life without one, is a life diminished.” –Dean Koontz

Wonder Dog Rescue has a long history of helping wonderful dogs find homes as happy and deserving companions. However, since Wonder Dog will take in dogs slated to be put down at other shelters for what may be treatable health conditions, some of these dogs come into the rescue requiring extensive and costly care. We currently have seven rescue dogs who are in need of varying degrees of medical treatment, some of which are extremely urgent.

We recently met Rosemary, a black Dutch Shepherd mix, who is about ten years old. She was surrendered to the pound back in October and came into our rescue after her “sister” was adopted – leaving her all alone. Rosemary is a wonderful dog who enjoys spending her time relaxing on a cushy dog bed – strategically placed where she can still observe everything happening around her…just to make sure she isn’t missing out on anything. Unfortunately, Rosemary is suffering from a large tumor that needs to be removed through surgery quite soon…and definitely before she can carry out her dream of being adopted by a loving family, where she can live out the rest of her days.

Max is a four-and-a-half-year-old Boston Terrier. He is well trained and enjoys the company of both people and dogs. Two of his favorite things includes warm laps and car rides, and he will happily trade doggies snuggles for either. Max is epileptic, so requires regular bloodwork and medication twice a day. We would love to find him a home where he can spend his time living the dream: napping on a warm lap and, if he’s very lucky, playing with children in his new home.

Dolly is a sweet Bulldog cross who is learning to be the well-trained, obedient dog that she so very much wants to be. She gets along with everyone and loves playing ball and running at the dog park. We picked Dolly up the evening before she was scheduled to be euthanized. She was suffering from ear infections and some skin issues when we picked her up. The ear infections have been cleared up and her skin it much better (as you can see from the before and after pics) – but she still requires a bit more medical care before we are comfortable releasing her for adoption. She is currently spending time at a foster home where she is waiting for her final treatments and a family that will love her.

Bambi is a six- to eight-year-old Chihuahua mix that was rescued from the SF ACC. She was on the list to be euthanized and we just couldn’t bear to see such a polite and ladylike pup leave us without having had the opportunity to share all her love with someone. She is currently in foster care and spends a good deal of time observing the happenings around her from a perch on the couch. Before she can be adopted to a home, Bambi requires some extensive dental work – which will likely include quite a few tooth extractions. But we want her to be as healthy and happy as possible when she finds a person to share her love with.

Winifred is a year-old Chiweenie (Chihuahua x Doxie) who loves toys and loves to play. Stuart is a terrier mix, who happens to look like a miniature Afghan Hound, that we think is around five years old. He is a sweet little dog who was rescues from another shelter. Both Winifred and Stuart are in need of some basic medical treatments prior to going into the loving homes that both are hoping for.

The last pup on our list of urgent medical needs is Sparkle. She is a six-year-old Chihuahua/Pomeranian cross that weighs in at a mere three pounds. She suffers from an autoimmune disorder for which we are still seeking the right treatment option from some of our local veterinarians and naturopathic specialists. This sweet and miniscule little girl just wants a person who will let her be at their side, but we need to make sure that her treatment is on the right track before she leaves.

The good news is that we were able to bring these dogs into our rescue and identify their medical needs before they were euthanized. The bad news? Medical and dental treatments are expensive and the lower cost clinics are overbooked. As a result, we are expecting the combined cost to cover the immediate needs of these dogs to equal at least $2100...some of which will come due in only a week.

All donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated. Your donation will be helping these dogs to live a longer life by battling the potentially life-threatening medical conditions that some of them are facing, and my providing necessary care in the cases of the others. These dogs are not simply “rescue dogs,” they are valued members of our rescue and the wonderful dog that someone, somewhere, is out there searching for.
