Women's Nguykal Football Club

Donation protected
Yolngu miyalk (women) unlike the men who regularly get out on the paddock to play sport, a very few have an active lifestyle making poor physical and mental health a common problem.

So Rarrtjiwuy (Mel) Herdman has taken on the role of coaching a local football team (AFL) in North East Arnhem Land to build confidence in women, so they have a choice and control of their own health.

A group of young Yolngu women (15-29)  have joined the team, some have played footy before and some are new to the game.

Playing together for fun, fitness and health, they want to be positive role models for their community - on and off the field.

Their club’s name is Ŋuykal (after the giant Trevally) and their motto …. ‘one team one spirit’.

As a friend of the Ŋuykal Womens Football Club they would love your help to keep them on the paddock, playing hard but fair.
To help them buy their footy shoes and outfits you can donate funds. And follow their games at Nguykal Football Club on Facebook and see …. whether they win or lose their games on the day…. they are all winners.
