Women's Hunting Camp Needs a Tent

Donation protected
Women's Hunting Camp in Southwest Montana  Oct 25th - Nov 15th

The Third Annual Women's Hunting Camp is an opportunity for those who identify as women and all whimsical iterations of queer/trans folks out there (BIPOC and others) to gather in the forest and explore what it means to be a hunter in our times.

We will create a space to study the burden and responsibilities that killing an animal bestows upon us.  We will share our skills, passions, joys, and sorrows  in a magickally slanted environment designed to allow us to play, make mistakes, and, gods willing, learn.

Why we need funding:

Setting up a small village in winter in Montana for a large group of people requires gear.

I would like to purchase a large canvas tent with a woodstove to serve as a communal sleeping space.  We will need this tent by October, 2019.  This is the tent that would match our needs:

And this is the woodstove:

Having this structure will provide sleeping and living space for 8-10 more people.  Obtaining the right equipment to survive in a demanding environment can be expensive and require resources that many people don't have.  I want to make sure that everyone who desires to have this experience is able, especially if they can't afford their own setups.  Your donations will help ensure that this camp is accessible and available to disadvantaged, struggling, low or no-income folks from all backgrounds.

The rest of the funding will go towards firewood for the camp.

Camp setup

There will be one 13x16 canvas wall tent with a wood stove that will act as a kitchen/meat shed.

There are also 3 smaller green canvas tents that could function as sleeping spaces for groups of 2-3.

Participants can bring personal gear and shelters if they have them.

About me

My name is Harmony Cronin.  I love learning, sharing, and courting earth-based nature connection skills, and I believe that these skills should be available to anyone that wants to learn them.

I am a student of decolonization, and strive to honor the First People and indigenous folks whose land we occupy.  I seek to accept accountability and employ my privilege to give back in whatever ways are wanted or needed.  I attempt to disassemble cultural appropriation by being  intentional about crafting skills from direct experience, communication with the animals themselves, allowing myself to be changed and crafted by the land itself, and practicing listening to my own ancestors.

I am a member of the Buffalo Bridge Project, and have been involved in organizing and running the camp for 7 seasons.  We are dedicated to assisting Tribal Hunters during the Treaty Buffalo hunt outside of Yellowstone National Park.  In true expedition style, we setup a large, fully functioning tent and tipi village for a camp of 10-20 people, and spend 4-7 weeks tending to our relationship with the tribes and the buffalo.  More information about that here:

I was trained at "Deemo's Meats", a small town butcher shop where I worked for four hunting seasons as a big game skinner and assistant to a mobile slaughter business, harvesting domestic animals for family farms.  This is where I learned and honed professional level skills of killing, gutting, skinning, and cutting animals.

My own hunting journey started about 7 years ago, when I began studying the traditional uses of every part of the animal.  I learned bow making, arrow making, and was determined to learn how to hunt in the most intentional, loving, and respectful way possible.  I found that the best way to learn how to hunt, is to just go out there and hunt.  I really love creating spaces for women to weave skills, magick, song, and empowerment.
