Wolfie's Sponsorship Fund

Donation protected

When I met Anne at the nursing home where my partner went for stroke rehab, she told me about her little dog Wolfie, and how badly she missed him. Anne is a ward of the state, with a court-appointed guardian. Before she went into a facility, she was living in her car with her maltese, Wolfie. When she became a ward of the state, Wolfie was taken away from her and put into the care of an appointee. She hadn't seen him in more than two years.

I suggested to my partner that we try to find out who was taking care of Wolfie, and see if we could foster him at our house so he could visit with Anne a couple of days a week on a regular basis. The facility put us in touch with Anne's guardian, and we worked it out.

In October, Wolfie came to live with us and our four dogs. The first thing we did was have him vetted, and we found out that he has a pretty serious health issue: liver disease. We're still running tests to figure out exactly what's causing it, so we'll know if there is a better way to treat it than what we are doing now.

Because the bulk of Anne's Social Security is used to pay for the eldercare facility where she lives, she really doesn't have any extra money for all the things Wolfie needs. He's turned out to be a pretty expensive house guest. He is fed a special food, he is on two medications, and he has to have his liver enzymes tested every 6 months.  His upkeep is going to cost about $1,300.00 per year; not counting his grooming or any vet visits in addition to the 6 month tests.

Here are Wolfie's expenses:

FOOD:  $30 mo / $360 yr
EYE MEDS: $70 -  3 mo. supply / $280 yr
LIVER MEDS: $26 mo / $312 yr
6 MONTH LIVER CHECK: $139 ea ( 2 per yr.)

As I mentioned earlier, we have four dogs of our own, and we sure could use some help with this foster pup, which is why I started this gofundme. Your donation will be put into a special fund for Wolfie's care. And I will be completely transparent about how it is spent.

You can read more about Wolfie and Anne, Up on the Woof , where you will also find other ways to donate, if you are someone who doesn't like to use a service like this one.Anne seeing Wolfie the first time after more than 2 years.
