West Michigan Special Hockey Assoc

The mission of WMSHA is to offer an amateur level ice hockey program for children and young adults with Down syndrome, Autism or any other developmentalyt disability. WMSHA is open to any player over the age of five, male or female, who is physically able to play, but would be unable to participate in any other organized program due to his or her developmental disability

Our goal is simple. To help as many kids get into skates and on the ice as we possibly can. But, ice time, skates and equipment are expensive. And as you know, many families who have children with special needs are already under serious financial strain. Please consider supporting our children's dreams to whatever extent you possibly can through a tax-deductible donation.

Every child should have the right to enjoy the fun of playing sports, the joy of teamwork, the achievement of hitting a ball, crossing the finish line or scoring a goal.

Unfortunately, kids with special needs are often left to look in from the outside.

That's exactly why WMSHA was formed -- to get children with disabilities in the game.

WMSHA was created out of pure passion, inspired by countless other programs of it's kind that exist across the country, but didn't exist here. UNTIL NOW. WMSHA was powered by the dreams of a small but mighty group of wannabe players, parents and hockey enthusiasts who were driven to make the dream a reality in West Michigan.

WMSHA is a non-profit organization whose initial formation was made possible through a grant from the USA Hockey Foundation, but our success will not come without the continued passion and support of the people of West Michigan.

As you likely know, ice time is VERY expensive, as is hockey gear and equipment for our kiddos and since WE DO NOT CHARGE A FEE for our kids to play, the money has to come from somewhere.  Families of special needs children have excessive medical expenses.  Co-pays, deductibles, gas to and from doctors visits, special caregivers, medications, mobility and educational equipment.  It often precludes families from getting their children involved in extracurricular activities.

We are in serious need of funding so that our children can continue to play hockey for the remainder of the year.  Please consider donating even $10 to help us reach our funding goals.  If your company has any corporate giving programs, or if you know a company who may be willing to sponsor our team, please have them contact us at [email redacted]
