David Alan Gay  Kitchener, ON
Hi. My name is David Gay and I really could use your help.

I was a systems developer and programmer for 20 years. Because of the recession of 2008-09 I lost my home and am living out on the streets in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge. I'm not a drug addict or alcoholic, and have no criminal record. I was not fired from my last job, nor asked to resign.

I'm 51 years old now and I'm right now staying in shared accomodations paid for by my family but that coverage is not permanent nor sustainable forever. I could lose this place and end up back on the street. This GoFundMe campaign stared off as a way to get funding so I can back to school but due to the urgancy of my situation, I need to refocus it so it instead covers the rent so I can stay here longer, continue my job search and have clean clothes and a shower for interviews.

In addition to this site, I also accept donations at dgaypaypal(at)hotmail(dot)ca and am also available for any part time work. If you live in the kitchener/waterloo/cambridge area in Ontario, Canada, I'm willing to meet face to face.

Update 26

Hello all.

You may have noticed I have not been updating my GoFundMe initiative lately. This is because of a new security verification system implemented by GoFundMe that requires the mandatory use of a phone to return a verification code.

For those of you who have been following my situation, I cannot afford a phone, either smartphone or land line. Until I find someone who is local and can be trusted with my verification code of my GoFundMe initiative, I cannot access any part of this page, including posting updates, and accessing the money that has been donated to me.

This ends my GoFundMe initiative. This does not end my quest for finding full time work that will keep me off the streets, and return me to full self-reliance and self-sustainability. This is a serious setback but I will not give up. I won't go down without a fight.

Please go to my Youtube Channel 'David Needs A Job!' and also my job search and homelessness blog at davidalangay.wordpress.com for continuing updates on my efforts.

I thank you for your past support

Blog: davidalangay.wordpress.com

In this update, I talk about a disturbing trend in the workplace where more Canadians are expected to work well into their 60s, 70s, perhaps never retiring. I address the inaccuracy of a statement made by one expert from the Broadbent institute (in the video linked below) that Canadians purposely do not save for their future because they are lazy. I disagree, arguing that it's because Canadians have very little disposable income after taxes, a lack of affordable housing, and the rising cost of living
