Building A "No-Kill" Rescue in NM
My wife Lisa and I are thrilled to announce we are working in conjunction with Deming Animal Guardians (DAG) to create a kind and loving place where folks can leave their beloved animals when they can no longer care for them. We will cherish these new friends until we can properly re-home them to their new, approved and loving home.
Luna County New Mexico is in desperate need of an additional shelter, a no-kill sanctuary, which we hope will take some pressure off of our current shelter.
We are so excited to let everyone know we will soon be opening the "D.A.G.S.H.I.P. Rescue" or Deming Animal Guardians Sunshine Haven Intake & Rescue.
Our mission is to vaccinate, spay and neuter all animals prior to re-homing, stopping the cycle of unwanted animals in our community.
Any and all animals are welcome to our sanctuary! Dogs, cats, horses, goats, ducks, geese, chickens, rabbits, ferrets, birds, llamas, burros, fish, pigs, reptiles, and basically all of God's creatures.
As you can imagine, this is a huge endeavor, but we are confident that our community and our friends will pull together to make this happen before year end. All lives matter.
Our initial goal is to gather donations and product which includes:
-Two pre-fab buildings to create an office and quarantine area. Each will need plumbing, electric, driveways, concrete pads, etc
-Computers and general office supplies.
-Bleach and detergent.
-Blankets and towels.
-Kennels and carriers.
We are starting with a monetary goal and intend to also apply for grants as well as ask local community members and businesses for material donations and the gift of volunteering.
You may donate here with a credit card, or contact us directly for material donations
All checks must be made out to: Deming Animal Guardians. Please be sure to write "for DAGSHIP RESCUE" in the memo portion of your check.
Your donations are tax deductible through DAG, a 501(c)3 non-profit.
Tax ID # 01-0776195
Thank you everyone for your enthusiasm, donations, time and energy.

The new no-kill animal rescue, DAGSHIP Rescue’s Mike Reitz has been awarded the “Recognize Someone” Compassion Award and has been nationally recognized by Bennett Awards based in California.
“The Recognize Someone is a program that helps people recognize someone who has made a positive change in their life, in their community, or in the world as a whole. It's a chance to shine a spotlight on someone's contributions, and share their story with the world”, says the website.
Awards are given for compassion, commitment and courage. All recipients have one thing in common: they have made a difference in the lives of others.
Proudly Mike states, “I am humbled … it is such an honor to be recognized for what we do. Thank you all for helping us save all animals. It has been a lot of work, but we love saving lives and healing these unwanted animals. I have always felt you can never have enough compassion, I guess this award proves that. The award is special, but saving lives is the real benefit to my soul. THANK YOU ALL.”
The Bennett family has been in the awards and fine art business for over 40 years. Bennett Awards started as an adjunct operation of the Bennett family’s fine art gallery, Bennett Gallery, but, over the years, has evolved into a standalone business that provides unique, high-quality, handcrafted awards to customers across the globe.

We can't even begin to list all of the volunteers and donors for this project to date. Please know however how much you are all appreciated! ❤️
If you would like to be involved in anyway, please contact DAGSHIP's Mike at (575) 545-8862
I don't normally support no-kill sanctuaries as many end up taking in too many unadoptable "animals", which increases the euthanasia rates of adoptable pets at shelters and contributes to animal overpopulation. HOWEVER, these folks are RESPONSIBLE rescuers - seeing to it that the animals they adopt out are both healthy and either spayed or neutered. The people that will be running this proposed rescue are professional groomers, and their personal pets (along with the animals in their care) are kept under EXCELLENT CONDITIONS. PLEASE, let's make this thing happen!
I want you to know that this IS a Legitimate Campaign & Every Penny will go towards the Shelter & Care & Re-Homing the Animals. This is being done by 2 very good friends of mine; Mike & Lisa. I trust my "Kidz" to them whenever I travel; the private rooms in an Adobe Casita for each "Family" of pets being boarded is nicer than most under $100/night hotel-motel rooms Sunshine Grooming & Kennels. I have been a big financial contributor to DAG [Deming Deming Animal Guardians] Spay & Neuter Program for several years; through my retirement this past October. As my Income & Finances have been Greatly "Downsized" since then; I will not be able to contribute to this greatly needed endeavor Financially; but I will be involved with other "Behind the Scenes" activities to help things get going. If any of my friends/family have any extra $$$; even $5 at this time; and you would like to make a Donation to this "GoFundMe" campaign [In Lieu of Flowers when I Kroak; hows that for a Deal???]; we would greatly appreciate it. Luna County has a very large percentage of much older, retired folks who end up either physically or financially unable to care for their pets; and their current only option is to turn them into the local Deming Luna County Humane Society; which; unfortunately; has a very, very high "kill rate" and minimal monies due to the low, low property taxes out here in Luna County, New Mexico.
