Director Jose Pena's newest documentary looks at colonization and it's harmful effects on the African Diaspora, and a search for reclaiming the Black Identity by following the lives of two New Yorkers Charisse Holder and Randy Harris who are of Guyanese descent. They will journey back to their homeland to try and uncover rites of passage gems left by their Ancestors and country men in order to fill in the missing pieces of Ancestry and Legacy. Upon diving deeper into the Guyanese culture and it's struggle with past governments to implement it's own identity across the music, economic, and entertainment scene, the two learn that inheritance is far beyond materialistic.

For so long, Randy and Charisse were disassociated from a country they were told not to bother with, due to other's negative sentiments about the country.  After meeting up with longtime college friend Randy, who’s ancestors on his mother side happens to be from Guyana, and hearing of his experience visiting the country- Charisse and Randy's journey soon began.

THE ASK

We've already hit the ground running. We've pulled together a majority of our own money to finance the film in Georgetown, Guyana and to cut a trailer, but we need your help to cross the finish line. We are currently in post-production and will need the help of all of our backers to complete the film.  During post-production editors, cinematographer, sound engineers, technicians and many others are needed to help complete the film for you all to enjoy! Your donations will cover the cost of all production editing, producing and licensing fees; festival entrance fees and a host of business fees to protect the film.

THE MISSION

As filmmakers representing the African Diaspora within mostly white male-dominated industries (film and advertising), we're uniquely suited to tell this story of rediscovering and reclaiming the Black identity and legacy of those across the African Diaspora.

Our mission is to open the dialogue within the families and communities of color.  We wish to share an experience that many dream of undertaking in order to provide answers to much needed questions about identity after colonization.  We hope that by producing such a film, we will amplify the voices of our ancestors and provide a much needed narrative for Millennials and all generations that need a road map back to self.

We hope you join us! And follow our story on www.wmifilm.com and @wheresmyinheritance on Instagram.
