Amy Skrbin Witherite and I went to high school together at Canevin Catholic High school. In reaching out to classmates for our 20 year high school reunion I found out that Amy and her family are in need of some help.
Amy and her husband Eric found out in February of 2011 that the twitch in Eric's left arm was the start of ALS. ALS as we all know due to the ALS ice bucket challenge is a terminal illness that slowly affects a person's nervous system and robs them of voluntary muscle control affecting a person's ability to move, walk, talk, eat and breathe.
Eric is a graduate of DuBois Area High School where he was an exceptional student athlete competing in wrestling, football, and baseball. He continued his education and wrestling career at Slippery Rock University before transferring to and graduating from Gannon University. Before his diagnosis, Eric was an elementary school teacher in the Millcreek Township School District where he taught 5th grade and was the head wrestling coach. Whether in classroom or wrestling room, Eric focused his career on bettering the lives of the students he dearly loved working with. Due to the progression of his ALS diagnosis he is no longer able to work. Today, Eric loves nothing more than watching his sons excel in their many activities.
Amy is an occupational therapist however she has had to quit her full time job to work part time so that she can care for Eric and their two children. They have 2 young sons, Luke (10) and Hayden (8). The lost income from both of their jobs in combination with the medical bills piling up quickly are a major source of stress for their family
This go fund me website has been established to help raise money to support Amy and Eric in their time of need. Please help support the Witherite family and remember that no donation is too small. Every little bit will help! I'm initially setting the fundraising goal for $5000.00! However I am hoping to crush this goal and go above and beyond to help Amy and her beautiful family! The ultimate goal of this fundraiser is to help offset Eric’s concerns for his family's future and provide him with some sort of peace.
