With Heavy Hearts, We’re Asking for Help for Margi

Donation protected
We have some very sad news to share.  Back in January 2018, our mom, Margi, complained of a backache, which she thought was from shoveling snow.  It got progressively worse, even with rest.  Being a two-time breast cancer patient, her doctors wanted to be extra conservative, and they ordered an MRI right away.  The MRI revealed questionable spots on her spine.

Then, after several biopsies, additional scans, and an excruciatingly painful procedure to her spine, we were devastated to learn that the pain in her back was being caused by cancerous tumors in her bones.  These tumors originated from a new primary lung cancer, which developed as a result of the radiation therapy used to treat her breast cancer over 15 years ago.

The advanced staging of the cancer required our mom’s treatment plan to be very aggressive.  She had daily radiation therapy in the early summer, which shrunk the tumors on her spine and alleviated some of her pain.  Then she started on a regimen of three chemotherapy drugs, which unfortunately had to be stopped in November when she became very anemic, requiring several blood transfusions.

For months, the doctors thought the anemia was a toxic reaction to the chemo...but we found out last week that she has a serious GI bleed somewhere...and that the cancer has progressed within her bones and her lung.  Hearing that was like a knife to our hearts.  She started radiation again on Friday - this time to her pelvis - to help alleviate some of her pain.  But yesterday morning she was admitted to the hospital with life threatening anemia.

Needless to say, this last year has been extremely difficult for our family, both emotionally and financially.  Money was already very tight for our mother, and asking for help was the last thing she wanted to do.  But, now, with recent moving/relocation expenses and the mounting medical bills, she has no other choice.

So many of you know and love our mom and her amazing spirit!!  She was like a second mother to dozens of our friends growing up.  Her constant support, compassion, strength, dedication, unconditional love and friendship are just a few of the things that make her so special, and I can honestly say that she has been the greatest gift and best mother that Marci, James and I could have ever have asked for.  We want more than anything to get her past this critical state and back home with us, where she belongs.

Please consider making a donation so that Margi can focus only on her health and not worry about the huge financial burden associated with cancer.  We love you all and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
