This account was created by my sister and I to help ease the financial burden that has sprung on our parents recently.
Three days before Christmas of 2015 our dad, Jeff Waters, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. This news was and still is devastating. Our dad is an extremely strong and determined person both physically and mentally. However, the process of cancer and treatment is long, stressful and discouraging. As the days go on and our dad receives inconsistent news from doctors his hope begins to fade. Our mom has taken time off work to be by his side so she is able to help him keep on track with appointments, medicines and taking care of all of their animals they have.
This is where we need your help. Our dad is waiting for chemotherapy treatment and the new drug POG (Personalized Onco-Genomics) recommended by his oncologist from the cancer agency. With multiple tumours already in several organs the survival rate with conventional treatment alone is approximately 10%. My parents have researched a secondary cancer treatment at the Integrative Health Clinic in Fort Langley that we feel very confident about but unfortunately is not covered by any benefits plan. The costs for Naturopathic Therapy this year alone will be $56,376.00. He will also need various vitamins to support the liver and face the costs of travel 6 times a month to the Cancer Clinic in Abbotsford and 6 times a month to the Naturopath in Fort Langley.
Anyone who knows our family knows that our parents have always gone above and beyond to help others in need, even at times where I know they were struggling, they still did whatever they could to help others that were less fortune. Our parents find huge joy in making sure other people and animals are happy. Aside from helping people, they have continuously rescued animals from shelters to give them a better, loving home. They’ve even brought animals in off the street, including wildlife. Some of them came from extreme situations which were heartbreaking.
We are hoping now that all of their years of banked good karma will come full circle at their time of need. Our parents have never asked for anything from anyone which is why we are stepping up and trying to do whatever we can to help. Anyone who has had to deal with cancer or any other illness knows how strenuous and expensive it can be.
