Grant a Wish for Colton

Hi, my name is Dillon Behen. Some of you, I have met personally. More have met or know my mom, Delly. But I’m certain that most, if not all, know Colton and the courageous battle he has fought with cancer. I don’t remember exactly when I first met Colton. I think I must have been around nine years old and he was maybe four. For a long time, I knew him and Case as the boys that I gave my hand-me-downs and old toys to. I guess you can say that my philanthropic spirit started with the mere act of “handing down” my old treasures to Colton and Case.

Fast forward 10 years……This fall, I will be starting my junior year at UW and I am the Philanthropy Chair at my fraternity, Sigma Chi. Our big fundraising event is called Derby Days and it benefits Make a Wish (MAW). So, you may be asking why I’m telling you all of this. Well, when I decided to accept the position of Philanthropy Chair, I knew that I would somehow try to incorporate Colton into all of this. My first attempt was to ask MAW if they would grant Colton another wish. Unfortunately, I was told no because they have a strict ONE wish per child policy. Even though Colton was granted a wish in 2013, I still believe that he deserves another wish. Wouldn’t you agree?

Because of my fraternity’s affiliation with Make a Wish (the CEO is a Sigma Chi alum), the main charity must remain the same.  However, I’m making my campaign a little more personal. I’ve witnessed everything that Colton has gone through and truly admire his strength. Like many of you, I want to help Colton, but know there’s not a lot that I can do. Alone, I know it would be difficult to make much of an impact and grant Colton another wish. But with the synergy of the ARMY, we could make another wish possible for Colton. With my “Grant a Wish for Colton Campaign,” half of everything that is raised will go directly to Colton and half will support Make a Wish.

How cool would it be to grant Colton his wish of his dream car, just in time for him to get his permit in the fall?  So, I’m asking all of you to please give if you are able to and feel free to share this post with anyone that knows Colton and his story. My goal is to raise a total of $25,000. This means that half would go directly to Colton and his wish could soon be a reality. The deadline will be September 30th.
