Wipe Out Cranston School Lunch Debt!

Donation protected
The Cranston Public School District recently sent a letter to parents: They've hired a collections agency to pursue school lunch account debts.

When students can't afford to pay for their lunch, their account goes into debt. If a student has a debt of $20 or more in their account and doesn't settle their debt within 2 months, parents will receive a collection notice. Collection is going to start on January 2, 2019, Right after the new year begins.

This year, the Cranston district already has $45,859 in school lunch debt. Together we can make a dent in that number and relieve the burden on families who can't afford to pay. Our first fundraising goal is just a little chunk of that total — only 10%. Totally doable, right?

People have come together to wipe out school lunch debt before.

In St. Paul, MN, a fundraiser was started by Pam Fergus to honor the memory of Philando Castile — a cafeteria worker in the community who was killed by police. One of the things we remember Philando for is his generosity  — when a kid couldn't afford their lunch, he was known to step in and pay for it himself.

This year, they've raised over $80,000 dollars to wipe out school lunch debts.

No family should have to start off the new year with a collections letter over their kid's lunch. Will you chip in to help relieve this debt?

In Cranston, an elementary school student's lunch is $2.50.  A middle school or high school student's lunch is $3.25.

So if $5 is all you can spare? That's great! You just paid off lunch for 2 kids! $6.50? Great! You just paid off lunch for a tween and a teen! Every dollar counts.
