Winning in the Cycle of Multiple Sclerosis

Donazione protetta
Multiple Sclerosis at 54

I was 54 when the doctors diagnosed me with late onset MS.  Up until that time I had lived a life of activity that involved family, raising children, enjoying grand babies, travel and involvement in my home church.

My friends and family might tell you that I’m a woman of faith, perseverance, optimism and joy.  So the hard part of all this is to admit that deep inside there is a fear.  Fear that I might one day awake to a life of non-movement.  The inability to travel, the inability to take care of myself and the biggest fear of all.....the inability to do for others.

My agreement and prayer to my Almighty Lord is to make the most of NOW.  Not concentrating or focusing on the man made fears in the corners of my heart, but rather to live in the faith that helps me focus on today.

My hearts desire is to be able to be as active as possible so that I may receive joy in abundance because I am still able to give joy and service to those around me.

The Alinker walking bicycle is the next step in physical therapy for many people with lower limb disabilities.  Until Alinker was created, someone like myself with MS, would have to either suffer with a cane or walker or use a wheelchair to be able to function daily.  The Alinker provides the stability and support of canes and walkers while allowing the user to incorporate physical therapy in their daily mobility.

The Alinker is designed for portability and ease of use while providing the maximum mobility for the user.  It is on it’s way to being approved as medical equipment much as walkers and wheelchairs are, but it isn’t quite there yet.

My doctors have been enthusiastic in their support of me using the Alinker.  In an effort to maintain as much muscle strength and mobility as possible with MS, the Alinker would provide not only physical therapy, but it would allow my quality of life to continue at a higher level for a longer time.

The Alinker Story

Your help is beyond the scope of my words of gratitude. My husband, Keith, suffered a hemorrhagic stroke In 2012.  I honestly never lost faith in God’s ability to heal him and God did not disappoint.  Keith made a remarkable and miraculous recovery!  He still has remnants of his stroke today and although he is the best helpmate that God could’ve given me, neither one of us saw the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis in our future.

Now the caregiver has become the patient.  God continues to be great in our lives and blesses us beyond measure.  Keith and I rely on each other more than ever now and the greatest frustration has been my inability to get around and to have the stamina to do it.  The Alinker gave me hope again, to the point of tears, as I realized it would give me the continued independence, exercise and mobility that my legs need while letting Keith and I still enjoy some travels, visiting with family and friends, and serving our community through our church activities.

We have always tried to live by this scripture in Deuteronomy 16:17

Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which He has given you.

God has never disappointed us nor has He ever let us down.  So it is with a joyous heart that I am led to ask for a donation of any amount in order for me to purchase the Alinker Walking Bicycle.  We know that just like us, not only will we be eternally grateful to you, but God will see fit to multiply the blessing for you.

*What is MS?

From Wikipedia.org:

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a demyelination disease in which the insulating covers of nerves cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged.  This damage disrupt the ability of parts of the nervous system to communicate, resulting in a range of signs and symptoms, including physical, mental, and sometimes psychiatric problems.  Specific symptoms can include double vision, blindness in one eye, muscle weakness (for me it’s my lower limbs), trouble with sensation, or coordination.  MS takes several forms, with new symptoms either occurring in isolated attacks (relapsing forms) or building up over time (progressive forms).  Between attacks, symptoms my disappear completely; however permanent neurological problems often remain, especially with the advancement of the disease.
