Windsor Dance eXperience’s New Home

Windsor Dance eXperience is a non-profit dance theatre company run completely by volunteers, based in Windsor, Ontario. For the past 12 years, we have provided healthy activity and an artistic outlet for local youth interested in the dance and theatre experience. Throughout our history, we have performed over 50 stage productions, hosted many community workshops, performed at festivals and schools while offering a wholesome environment for creativity and personal growth for over 400 young dancers. We don’t just give dance lessons, we give life lessons like discipline, teamwork and responsibility.



However, earlier this year we were informed that the building that houses our rehearsal space would be closing its doors. Now, it is void of any activity and scheduled for demolition.
I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason so we will not let this be a step back but would much rather prefer it to be a leap forward.We want to give our dancers a space they deserve because they work so very hard to show our community their best side. They bring quality entertainment to our city and they make people feel something before the curtain comes down.

Our new dance space needs to be at least 2400 sq feet with additional storage space for costumes, props and set. However, the spaces that have made the final cut and fit in our budget all have concrete floors which is dangerous to a dancer’s body. We will need additional funds to install a floor that our dancers can rehearse on for years to come. Our goal is to find a place that the dancers can call their own and never have to worry about being “homeless” again. We also host community workshops and want to provide a safe, presentable space for all of our guests who partake them.

While we search for a sustainable solution our immediate void we need to fill is $14,000. Our target for this campaign is $8000, which would help us install a dance floor as well as help cover other moving expenses and perhaps other renovations that may need to happen if indeed we are lucky enough to find our own space. One that we can really call home. Our projected expenses are as follows:

$8000 Rent (4-6 months until re-evaluation of revenue sources)

$1000 - Moving expenses (Truck and equipment rental, disposal services)

$3000 - Dance studio needs (Flooring, mirror installation, audio equipment)

$1000 - Business needs (Signage, storage, office equipment and supplies)

$1000 - Incidentals and possible rental above what has been estimated
