Hello my name is Wilma Steele. I greet you with a heart felt handshake. I am Hunkpapa Lakota from Little Eagle, South Dakota located on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. I am a mother of four beautiful children whom I deeply love and adore with all my heart. I’ve currently been battling liver failure since March with ongoing struggles that may lead potentially to my kidneys as well. Within the last year, I’ve participated and was honored to represent my family, community, and Standing Rock nation in the D.C. run with Oceti Sakowin Youth Runners. Before participating I yearned for a positive change and helped inspire people from across the world. I was very honored to be apart of history in the making. I am asking wholeheartedly for monetary assistance to be able to support myself and my family. Recently I was placed on the waiting list for liver transplant while residing in hospice care for the last few months. I am unable to work to provide for my family at the moment. We have had a ton of wonderful support from family and friends throughout my battle for my life. My family and I are doing our best to remain strong and resilient.
