Jake Finley's FIGHT against cancer

It"s crazy how life can be. One day your falling in love with your highschool crush who you just reacquainted with after 18 years, and a few months later your finding out that there is a journey ahead of us that no one can really prepare for. We were both at the time, not only starting over in our own lives, but starting to build our lives together.

Jake was diagnosed with Stage 3 Rectal Cancer on May 6th. It has spread in the Lymphnodes. He just started his first round of radation and chemotherapy. Radation is 23 days, 48 days of Chemotherpay (in pill form). After 8 weeks he will have surgery to remove the tumor and cancer. He will then have a 4 week healing time after surgery, and then will have a port placed for another round of Chemotherapy.

With Jakes age and determination the doctors are hopeful that he will recover 100%. While we have been going through the emotions of this new, news the stress has been beyond overwhelming. Jake has been battling with pain and symptons for approximately 5 years, but with no medical insurance his pain and symptons got pushed to the back burner and he just kept pushing forward with everyday life. Colorectal cancer symptons often do not present themselves until the disease has progressed past the intial stage. Colorectal cancer is more normal to be found in someone 50 and over not 35 years old. Regular screening is highly recommended specially if you have family history of colorectal cancer. Listen to your body.

Currently Jake, I and his son River reside in McCall. Jake and I moved up to McCall, ID a few months ago for a job opportunity he was offered. Within the first week after we moved his pain was noticebly getting worse. From the first ER visit it has already been a whirlwind of doctors appointments, tests, MRI's, pet scans, paperwork, counselors and much more. Jake is currently unable to work due to his health and now symptoms from treatment. The financial burdens are heavy. Recently, the car has broke down so transporation to drive the 100+ trip everyday, for 5 days straight has been weighing heavy on us. The MSTI Institute has been great but only has so many resources. We are currently living with friends, not only is it hard to find home rentals in McCall but to come up with first, last months rent and deposit is a challenge right now as my income is not enough for us to save for that. Jakes level of discomfort and pain has increased and the stress of all of this has been very taxing on him. Mentally, it has been at times too much, dealing with and grasping the reality of the situation while still having to move on with everyday life. Being able to help ease some of this stress off of him, I know will allow him to not feel so overwhelmed and allow him to focus more on just his fight in battling this and kicking the CANCER to the curb! We will continue to keep you all updated on his progress and health. I know through, pray and the continued flood of love and support for Jake we will all get him through this as he is not alone in this journey.
