My Around the World Wildlife Trek

Dear family & friends,
The time has finally come for me to embark on my first backpacking expedition! First stop: Bangkok, Thailand. From there I plan to make my way around Southeast Asia and possibly down into Australia and New Zealand. The trip is quite spontaneous and open-ended, so who knows where I may end up!
As many of you know, around the world travel is something for which I am very passionate. Visiting every part of the world will take a lifetime, but this is a lifelong goal to which I am dedicated.
For me, cultural immersion is an invaluable experience, one in which I intend to engage throughout my travels. I recently worked at a wonderful establishment called Busboys and Poets where we embodied the following tribal statement to provide “a community where racial and cultural connections are consciously uplifted; a place to take a deliberate pause and feed your mind, body and soul; a space for art, culture and politics to intentionally collide”. We believe “by creating such a space we can inspire social change and begin to transform our community and the world”. Both this concept and The Carolina Way, resonate with me and have inspired me to create communities like such everywhere I go.
You all know I go weak at the knees for just about any and every animal. I have the utmost respect for this planet and all its wondrous species, and I have every intention to devote my life to this passion, whether it be through research, veterinary medicine, and/or conservation efforts. During my travels I will volunteer my time at wildlife conservation centers, rehabilitation centers, sanctuaries, shelters, zoos, veterinary practices, research field sites, etc. I am waiting to hear back from a few research opportunities that would station me in Southeast Asia for a couple months. These experiences will contribute to my future endeavors, and they will also allow me to pour my love into meaningful and impactful causes.
I look forward to all I will gain from this opportunity: animal-related experience, knowledge, thought-provoking conversation, inspirational acquaintances, loving friends, and unforgettable memories. What I am about to experience will be irreplaceable.
I have been saving up my entire life for this moment. However, there are always unexpected expenses that arise. For example, one of my vaccines alone will cost me $600. This same $600 could sustain me for 1+ months of living expenses or could cover the cost of my flight one way. Also, the volunteer and research opportunities are not financially supported; they are all self-funded.
Any support you can offer is greatly appreciated. I will be forever grateful. One day I will travel much further and a species will live much longer thanks to you.
