WILD LEO - Education for Ugandan Wildlife Rangers

The WILD LEO Ranger Education Fund was founded in 2015 to provide higher education scholarships for Ugandan rangers. By focusing on rangers working in law enforcement, including the legal department responsible for trying cases, the fund aims to build capacity for wildlife protection. Law enforcement rangers are on the front line of conservation efforts around the world and dedicate their professional careers to stopping the illegal poaching and trade of wildlife.
Since its inception, the Ranger Education Fund has supported a number of rangers to pursue studies in law, environmental studies, and crime analysis. The fund supports rangers for one-year diplomas, but also for bachelor and post-graduate degrees. The goal is to provide recipients with more knowledge and experience to help them better protect wildlife in the field and court of law.
Since 2015, the fund has supported rangers from Queen Elizabeth National Park, Murchison Falls National Park, and the Uganda Wildlife Authority Headquarters in Kampala. The fund strives to help rangers achieve educational goals that may not have been possible without financial support. The scholars have performed exceptionally well, earning top marks in their class, both in Uganda and abroad. In 2018, WILD LEO scholar Julius Obwana was awarded the Tusk Wildlife Ranger Award, one of the most prestigious honors in African conservation.
All donations made to this campaign will go directly to the Uganda Conservation Foundation (UCF Facebook Page) who oversees the fund. By donating now, you can help the next round of scholars start a new path in the 2019 academic year.
