Wife of a Veteran-Mother of 4-Battling Rare Cancer

Donation protected
Michelle Meyers is the wife of a veteran, the mother of four ambitious and loving children, and is gearing up for the fight of her life.  Despite feeling sick for years, going to top hospitals in Chicago, there were no answers being given.  In 2015, an MRI showed that her liver was covered in masses. They notified her that it was “too risky” to do any biopsies, with the liver being mostly vascular, in fear of bleeding out.  They coined them as non-cancerous adenomas without having any evidence to back that up and told her they would monitor them.

She fought through the pain while her immune system was getting weaker by the day.  She continued to be the strength for her family, a Mental Health Therapist for recovering addicts and veterans with PTSD, and silently fighting her own battles daily.

After she and her family moved to Florida, she had a new set of doctors on the case.  Her new doctors told her it was too risky NOT to do a biopsy after the 10 masses grew to 60.  So they biopsied the largest mass on her liver, and the results came back as HCC (Hepatocellular carcinoma)... liver cancer.  This is extremely rare; especially for a young, healthy woman and because it’s so rare, they do not have the best answer on how to treat her yet.  Since Michelle’s liver is that of a young, healthy person, meaning she is not an alcoholic (does not have cirrhosis) or any other medical ailments that they know of, she is lower on the transplant list.  Her doctor is advocating for her to be moved up on the list.

Meanwhile, she is having a multitude of other tests done.  PET scans, CT, biopsies, MRI’s.  There are still a lot of unanswered questions but as the results keep coming in, we are hoping the pieces of the puzzle start coming together.  A couple family members are also being tested to see if they could be a match to be donors.  She has an appointment with Moffitt in Tampa at the end of this month (August).

With that being said, not only the emotional and physical stress is consuming, but, as you can imagine, the financial stress... currently and the treatment that is yet to come.  Her husband working multiple jobs to try to keep them afloat, we are asking for donations to help this young, loving and hopeful family.  Anything helps... even sharing this link... and the Meyers family would be so grateful.
As we get more answers, we will continue to update this page.  Thank you for your love and selflessness  ❤️
