Husband and Wife Andy and Amanda Elswick

We’ve started this fundraiser on behalf of my brother Andrew Elswick (29), sister-in-law, Amanda Elswick (29), as well as their children Nicolas (9), Emma (5) and Charles (1 week). The money earned through this campaign will go towards helping raise three awesome kids who will have to go through life after losing their mother at very vulnerable ages. The kids haven’t fully grasped the situation yet, but have been told that their mother is sick and sleeping. They will be crushed once they find out that their mother is gone, as she is the light of their lives.

Andrew is a good man. He is hardworking and family oriented. He would never ask for financial help himself, but he and his family are in dire need, so we are asking for him. He and the kids have been in and out of the hospital every day since the 6th of February. They are tired, confused and in need of our support. Please, do whatever you can to donate and share this campaign.

On February 6th 2019, Andrew and Amanda arrived at Metrohealth Hospital in Cleveland Ohio, to welcome their new child into the world via scheduled C-Section. As the operation began  Amanda suffered a very rare and fatal complication, an amniotic fluid embolism.

Amanda’s body rapidly shut down, and it became a race for the doctors to try to save her life as well as the life of the child inside her.  During the process, Charles (the baby) lost a significant amount of blood, but received a transfusion and has since recovered well, going home with his father Sunday February 17th. Amanda was resuscitated, but remains in a vegetative state, as she had gone a long period of time deprived of oxygen. Doctors from both Metrohealth and The Cleveland Clinic have reviewed her CT Scans and say that there is no hope for recovery. She will be transferred into hospice care within the next few days, and is expected to pass away shortly after.

Amanda is an amazing wife and mother. She had a way of lighting up a room when she walked in. She was always ready to smile and laugh, and made everything a lot better just by being there. She has dedicated her entire life to her children, as they truly brought her more joy than anything else in the world. At 29 years old, no one expected to be saying goodbye to her, but here we are. At the end of the day, never forget that we have no idea how much time we have left on this earth. Love with all you have, forgive and forget, never harbor hate and be kind to yourself.

Thank you for your time and support! Please keep Andy, Amanda and the kids in your prayers. God Bless!

                  Amniotic Fluid Embolism

The cause behind these occurrences is still unknown in the medical field, but they occur when a mothers amniotic fluid mixes into her blood stream, causing a sort of “allergic” reaction that leads to rapid heart and lung failure. It is extremely rare, estimated to occur in 7.7 pregnancies in every 100,000.  With a mortality rate of 70-90%, it the leading cause of death during child birth in developed nations.
