WHO ARE WE?
CKC Quarterly Productions was formed in 2016 by Curtis K Case of CKC Productions and Joseph Horning of Quarterly Entertainment, LLC as a joint venture to co-produce the screenplay entitled ‘WHERE IS MY GOLDEN ARM,’ co-written by Case and Horning.

JOSEPH HORNING
Joseph Horning is a 2005 graduate of the Art Institute of Philadelphia’s Video Production program.  He has worked on various projects, starting in 2007, working as an Associate Producer on the thriller ‘FALSE FACE’ with Film Zero Productions.  In 2009 he wrote, produced and directed his first short film under his company Quarterly Entertainment, LLC entitled ‘MASTERPIECE,’ a psychological thriller about a deranged artist and a desperate young woman.  In 2012, Joe’s screenplay ‘DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN’ won the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce’s Regional Award for the Shoot in Philadelphia Screenplay Competition.  In 2016 ‘DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN’ received Honorable Mention at the LA Screenplay Festival as well as coming in as a Top 10 Finalist in the Thriller Screenplay Festival in Delaware.

CURTIS K CASE
Curtis K Case is an up and coming director, producer and actor who started working on his first film under his production company CKC Productions in 2014.  Curtis is originally from Atlanta.  In 2007 he moved to Philadelphia to pursue a career in acting in the cities thriving independent film industry.  Since then he has acted in over 30 productions.  Growing up, Mark Twain’s “The Golden Arm” left an impression on Curtis, so much so that he chose it to adapt as his first film, ‘WHERE IS MY GOLDEN ARM’ in the summer of 2014.  In early 2015 Curtis moved to Los Angeles to further his career in both acting and filmmaking.  Now, Curtis is prepping to turn ‘WHERE IS MY GOLDEN ARM’ into a feature with the hopes of taking people on a journey through the art of storytelling.

THE STORY
‘WHERE IS MY GOLDEN ARM’ is an imaginative retelling of an old jump tale made famous by Mark Twain.  The original story tells the tale of a farmer and his wife named Elvira who was born with a golden arm.  Every night Elvira makes her husband promise to bury her with her golden arm should she die, which he does but when the farm falls on hard times he has little choice but to dig up her grave and steal the golden arm.  Angered that he broke his promise to her, Elvia returns from the grave in search of her golden arm.

In our retelling of this story, we delve deeper into why the golden arm mattered so much to Elvira and why she returned from the grave to reclaim it from her husband.  We focus on the history of the golden arm, its meaning and how it affects the lives of everyone who possesses it to create an atmospheric horror film similar in look and feel to movies like ‘THE SKELETON KEY.’

“Promise me you’ll bury me with my golden arm?  You don’t know what will happen if you don’t,” are the last words echoed by Elvira to her husband Josh, who in her final moments of life agrees to bury her with her golden arm.  However Josh finds the allure of the gold too tempting to pass up and he breaks his promise to Elvira by stealing her golden arm before she can be buried with it.  He soon realizes that her dying words were a prophetic warning to him to always keep his promises as Elvira returns from the grave in search of her golden arm!  At first Josh dismisses the visions of his dead wife as hallucinations but after an attack in his home he begins to believe that they may be real.  Taking the advice of his best friends Mike and Stuart, Josh goes off in search of Elvira’s family whom he believed were all deceased and discovers a man named Edward Dilks who reveals that the gold her arm was forged from carries a hoodoo curse with it dating all the way back to the 18th Century when Pennsylvania was still a slave state!  The curse, placed on the gold by a Haitian slave girl named Grace, promises to destroy the lives of any man who attempts to claim the gold as his.  Only the women of Elvira’s family were safe as one of her relatives had shown Grace mercy and helped her to escape captivity before being recaptured and sold off to a plantation in New Orleans.  Fearful that the gold would destroy him but not wanting to let it out of his sights, Elvira’s father had the gold melted down and poured over her arm when she was a child!  Doing this essentially made her one with the curse and the harbinger of doom for Josh and any other man who stands in her way as she haunts his every waking minute asking “Where is my golden arm?”

WHAT WE NEED
Your contributions will help bring this unique atmospheric horror film to life.  Every dollar you contribute helps towards bringing ‘WHERE IS MY GOLDEN ARM’ from the page to the screen.  We have provided a complete breakdown page for each item we discuss in this section.

INSURANCE & LOCATIONS
Two of the biggest expenses that we have are insurance and location rentals.  We have secured several locations that have committed to allowing us to film there as long as we provide insurance and pay for rentals.  We’re trying to be as frugal as possible, however that isn’t always going to be possible.

Old Bedford Village

Due to the nature of the story we’re trying to tell, several scenes will be shot in historic towns and buildings that are registered with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  These locations require a minimum of $1,000,000 in insurance to protect against any damage that may occur during filming.  They also charge upwards of $1,000 per day for shooting.  A few of the places that we will be shooting in are the Old Bedford Village, the Lancaster County House and Pennsbury Manor for critical flashback scenes depicting Pennsylvania during slavery, as well as Independence Hall in Philadelphia featuring Colonial reenactors as State Assemblyman.

Pennhurst Asylum

We’ve also made arrangements to film in Daddypops Diner which was once featured on Guy Fieri’s “Diners, Dives and Drive-Ins.”  One of the locations we’re in negotiations with at the moment that would be a coupe for our production is Pennhurst Asylum.  It is one of Pennsylvania’s most notorious institutes and was featured on “Ghost Hunters” in 2011.

Along with these rental fees and the liability insurance, some of our scenes may require us to shut down streets and we would have to pay for permits as well as for the police needed to keep traffic away from the set.

CAST & CREW AND TRAVEL EXPENSES

We have a large cast featuring 10 principal actors, hundreds of extras, including colonial reenactors.  Our crew will be small compared to larger Hollywood productions.  Since we are an independent film, we will only require a minimum crew of around 25 people to bring this movie to life.  The majority of our cast and crew will be hired directly from the Philadelphia independent film scene, while at least 4 of our main actors will need to be flown in from Los Angeles.  Arrangements have already been made to put up these actors in locations that will not affect our overall budget.
Some of our cast include:

          CAMILA GREENBERG
Camila has guest starred on a number of TV shows
like "How I Met Your Mother," "Brothers And
Sisters," "10 Things I Hate About You" and "90210."
Camila is slated to play ELVIRA and her ancestor,
          ELVIRA MATHEWS.

          ROCKY MYERS
Rocky is an east coast native slowly making a name
for himself in Hollywood.  He has appeared in more
than a dozen feature films, including Oscar
Nominee Darryl Roodt's found footage thriller,
Safari.  Rocky is slated to play JOSH the husband of
          Elvira.

          JOSLYN PENNYWELL
Joslyn was a 2008 contestant on "America's Next
Top Model," and has appeared in one season of
"The Millionaire Matchmaker" on Bravo.  She is
slated to play GRACE, the runaway slave who
places the curse on the gold that would eventually
          find it's way to Elvira.

Some of our scenes will also require us to travel a few hours away from the main locations that we’re shooting in.

Everyone’s time is valuable and many of the actors and crew will be giving up time from full time jobs to work on ‘WHERE IS MY GOLDEN ARM.’  We know that their time is valuable and we want to compensate them for their dedication to this project.

PROVIDING FOOD
We’re going to be feeding everyone on set every day of the production, so we’ll need a large budget to accommodate everyone’s appetites.  We have to keep in mind that many of our talented actors may have special dietary needs that we’ll have to fulfill.

CLOTHING, PROPS AND EQUIPMENT
The majority of our clothing will consist of Colonial era attire.  Costs may be reduced if we can hire reenactors that can provide their own clothing, however we may need to hire a costume designer that can fabricate the materials we need.

Our only real prop in the movie would be the actual golden arm.  Several will need to be produced so that in the course of filming if one gets lost; damaged or stolen there will always be a backup for us to use.

On the equipment front:  we have weighed the options of renting or buying the equipment to use and discovered that buying everything outright (with the exception of a few items) will save us around $14,000 in our budget.  Renting the equipment – even with weekly and monthly deals – would cause us to go over budget by at least $13,000!

MARKETING & DISTRIBUTION
We’ve already begun marketing the movie on Facebook and Twitter thanks to the short film that Curtis shot in 2014, though we’ll have to be more aggressive as the feature nears completion.  This will require us to advertise in newspapers, have posters printed, and pay for theaters to showcase the film as well as to submit it to film festivals.

Our hope is that with enough buzz generated in the festival circuit, ‘WHERE IS MY GOLDEN ARM’ will gain the attention of a producer or major distribution studio that will help give it a wider theatrical release, greatly increasing every investors chance of gaining a profit.

POST-PRODUCTION

RENTAL OF SOUND STAGES FOR AUDIO OVERDUBS
Everything will be captured during the shoot, but there are always unforeseen circumstances that pop up where we might have to do some ADR (Automatic Dialogue Replacement) work.

PAYING FOR THE FILM SCORE
We could revert to using royalty-free or non-licensed music, however most times you can never find the right piece of music to compliment a scene.  There are a few independent film composers that we can approach to record the music for a low cost and still get a high quality, professional film score.

THE FINAL CUT
Once the movie is completed we will need to begin editing.  This will require someone capable of providing their own studio space and who is adept in non-linear editing and special effects software.

ABOUT OUR REWARDS
