This kid. What can I say?  She rolled in the dirt, she played hockey, she went to camp and sleepovers with friends. Loved school.  She was so busy. So active.  When she started slowing down, was in pain all the time and missed school, was when the ER visits started. I remember learning about mitochondria in high school. The powerhouse of every cell. Dysfunctional mitochondria affects the body and organs.  The body can't  function properly.  When she was diagnosed with Mitochondrial disease,  the secondary diseases started appearing. My sweet Moo went from Saturday games and after school practices to Saturdays in the hospital. She turned in her cleats for knitting needles because running became impossible. Sleepovers were now a thing of the past. She had to learn how to walk, talk, use her hands again. The energy needed to push her manual wheelchair has taken it's toll on her body and deprived her of her independence. Simple tasks like going to the mailbox and back completely depletes her energy reserve and requires assistance to push her chair.  After years of will power and stubbornness, the time has come to accept the power wheelchair into our lives. She has lost all sense of independence, as she must rely on others to get her around.  Her electrical grid may be faulty, but her spirit never waivers. She lives life to the best of her ability and wants to continue on her journey of CAPS games, Harry Potter conventions and maybe even get a job someday. A vehicle that accommodates this new chair will provide ease and a sense of independence she has so longed to gain back.  She is the powerhouse of my every cell. She is the light in my day.
