Wheelchair van for Aubrey

Donation protected
7 years ago my husband Devin who is a fire fighter paramedic for the villages Florida serving in the us army and I were caught completely off guard when we took our daughter to a routine check up, and were told something was “wrong” with Aubrey. Fast forward 3 years later we were informed Aubrey has Foxg1, a rare genetic condition that at the time only had 150 children world wide diagnosed. For the first year or so after the diagnosis we lived in a daze, not knowing what the future held for Aubrey due to this genetic disorder being so rare. With this diagnosis, we take it day by day and never stop fighting for Aubrey. Due to the Foxg1 disorder Aubrey will never be able to walk, talk, do things children her age are doing, have any sort of independence, and possibly never have an understanding above the age of a child who is 1. With Aubrey having this genetic condition every day tasks are fought and accomplished by her family as a whole.

With Aubrey having Foxg1 every day tasks are more complicated due to the fact that her family has to do everything for her including getting her in and out of the vehicle, assembling the wheel chair in the car and out of the car to school, therapy, and activities. With Aubrey getting bigger it’s becoming more impossible to get her in and out of our small family suv. she’s out growing her current vehicle and car seat and her next size up wheel chair will no longer fit in our vehicle. With her father working as a fire fighter paramedic working 24 hour shifts and a lot of times 48 hours it makes it hard for her mother, a single person, to complete the every day tasks of having a special needs child who is almost the same size as her.

However, up until this point we have been able to meet all of Aubrey’s needs outside of our insurance company. Unfortunately our insurance company does not provide assistance for procuring a handicap assessable vehicle, but acquiring one has become an necessity because it is no longer safe to transport Aubrey in her current small car seat anymore. We cannot recline the seat any further back then it already is so Aubrey can not prevent her head from falling forward or leaning out of her car seat. We plan on selling the vehicle we currently own to help fund the handicap van we plan to purchase, it will cost approximately $60,000 for a new converted van which is completely more then we can afford on our own.

With that being said my husband and I feel embarrassed about asking our family, friends, coworkers, and complete strangers for help. We have truly done our best to be smart with our limited finances but we can only stretch them so far, that is why we have set up this donation site. We do not expect help or feel that anyone is obligated to assist us in this regard, but please know that any donation that is given no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated and help us work toward us attaining our goal.

   Many thanks,

The Lawrence family
