Weston Winning Against Cancer

Meet Weston.  Weston is the exemplar of strength and resiliency.  At age three, Weston was diagnosed with a moderate severe bilateral hearing loss requiring hearing aids and speech and language therapy.    It didn’t slow him down.  He loved learning and soaked up his broadening vocabulary like a sponge.  He taught himself to play guitar, loved high school football, and grew up to pursue his dream to become a welder.  He met and married the love of his life and gained an instant family.  At twenty-two, during a routine eye exam, it was discovered that Weston was losing his eyesight.  After seeing a retinal specialist, he was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a diagnosis that will leave him with a small amount of tunnel vision and night blindness.  His hearing loss and oncoming blindness are the result of a genetic syndrome called Ushers.  He took this devastating news in stride and began to rebuild his life.  He had to eventually give up his beloved welding job, then his driver’s license.  Now both legally deaf and legally blind, he became a stay at home dad to his step-daughter and was making plans to return to college as he learned to live with his decreasing eyesight.  In July 2017, nine days before his 26th birthday, he received the biggest blow yet.  Weston has been diagnosed with lymphoma.  To be specific, stage IV Non-Hodgkin’s B Cell lymphoblastic lymphoma.  And at age 26, he aged out of his mother’s insurance coverage.  Weston’s medical bills are mounting quickly.  He will require week-long hospitalization to receive his chemo and eventually a bone marrow transplant.  He is facing not only his medical bills, but new and higher insurance premiums, lost wages for his wife, and a host of miscellaneous expenses.  Weston has always put his faith in God and has only ever wanted to be a husband, father and provider for his family.  Life has dealt him several hard blows, but he has never given up.  He will persevere and beat cancer too.   Thank you for reading his story.  Any donation, no matter how small, will help Weston and his family.  God bless you.
