On April 11, 2019, my dear friend and backup kid, WESTON VROOMAN was blindsided when he was HIT BY A CAR!
Weston had been legally walking across a crosswalk on his Chicago street at the time of the accident, and Wes had the right of way.
A police officer witnessed the accident, cited the driver with speeding and reckless driving, then accompanied Wes to the ER. Weston’s injuries include a compressed fracture of the left tibia plateau, torn left meniscus and severely sprained right ankle.
Wes’s mom, Vicki, immediately flew to Chicago to be with Wes for his reconstructive orthopedic surgery. As he heals, Wes is confined to a wheelchair, and cannot bear weight on his feet.
Weston’s Chicago apartment is only accessible via stairs, so Wes had to stay in a hotel as Vicki packed up his belongings.
Wes’s longtime friend and roommate Josh, along with some of Wes’s many Chicago friends, helped Vicki move all Wes’s furniture into storage.
Vicki rented a car in Chicago and drove through the night to get Wes back home to Tulsa. He is expected to be confined to a wheelchair for at least 8 more weeks, and will be recovering here this summer.
Unable to work, Weston had to leave his much loved job at George’s Ice Cream and Sweets, where he had just earned a promotion. He also had to temporarily discontinue his work with acting classes, and future performances.
Wes and Vicki both appreciate the many kindnesses friends and family have shown. You’ll be relieved to know that although he is confined and in pain, Weston’s sense of humor remains intact. He is still our quick-witted comedic genius, and promises to parlay these adventures into additional stand-up material.
