West Houston Lacrosse - 2018 Season

West Houston Lacrosse was formed in 2014 so that students in the Houston Independent School District's Westside feeder pattern could participate in lacrosse.  At that time programs that served neighborhoods in the area closed their participation to students that were part of HISD, meaning that kids could no longer play lacrosse without having to make a 30-45 minute drive to practices for the next nearest program.


What began as a group of 14 5th graders, quickly grew to encompass a K-4 program using Soft Sticks, a 4th/5th-grade team, and two middle school teams.  In 2017 we were asked to take in the high school program (boys and girls) as part of our association.


Because lacrosse is not a UIL Sport, HISD treats it as school club rather than as part of the athletic program and provides no funding.  This means that all costs are paid by the participants.  Approximately 2/3rds of the student population served by West Houston Lacrosse qualifies for free/reduced lunch meaning that we are reliant on our community for sponsorships and donations in order to allow all interested students a chance to play.   And our community and local businesses have been generous and unwavering in their support.


However, in the wake of Hurricane Harvey and the devastation it brought to our neighborhoods those that have been so kind to our program find themselves struggling to get their businesses and homes back together, while our players' families have also been significantly impacted.


This has put West Houston Lacrosse in a position in which our students need more help than they ever have before, but those that had provided that help are now also in need.


In order to try and alleviate the current shortfall in our budget for 2018, we are asking for help from the lacrosse community so that our kids can continue to play a sport they love.  For the 2018 Season for our teams we need to raise the following amounts:

-$4, 750 - Referees for Home Games
-$1,750 - Athletic Trainers for Home Games
-$5,000 - Uniforms
-$2,500 - US Lacrosse fees
-$1,000 - Replacement Gear
