West Michigan Loving Day

Loving Day fights racial prejudice through education and build multicultural community. Ebony Road Players are producing a series of events full of art and entertainment to create a welcoming space for multiracial families and celebrate our multicultural community. This celebration is for all who are inclusive.

Loving Day is celebrated in cities throughout the country in observance of the Loving v.Virginia Supreme Court Case of 1967, which struck  down the criminality of interracial marriage in the United States.  It also provides and opportunity across the country to celebrate all the members of our community.

Monday June 11, Award-winning documentary film Little White Lie tells Lacey Schwartz’s story of growing up in a typical upper-middle-class Jewish household in Woodstock, NY, with loving parents and a
strong sense of her Jewish identity — despite the open questions
from those around her about how a white girl could have such
dark skin. She believes her family’s explanation that her looks
were inherited from her dark-skinned Sicilian grandfather.
But when her parents abruptly split, her gut starts to tell her
something different.

Saturday June 16, Ebony Road Players are hosting a FREE community arts festival at Rosa Parks Circle to bring all types of families together in a celebration of unity and multiculturalism. There will be food,
vendors, a stage with music, and a family dance party.
The festival will include many activities for kids of all ages
including family dance instruction, hula-hoops and sidewalk
chalk, face painting, and a chance to get your picture taken with
the super hero Black Panther!

Sunday June 17,  Ebony Road Players will bring a theatrical group from Detroit to present Neither There, Nor Here — an original, multimedia,
interdisciplinary memory play-meets-cooking show directed
by A Host of People co-director Sherrine Azab and collectively
created by the ensemble. "Neither There, Nor Here" focuses on
the experience of people with liminal identities of race, gender,
culture and sexuality who live between so-called traditional
binaries to create their own cultures that move beyond more
typical either/or identities — all through the lens of a live
televised cooking show.
