West Hill Pond Dam Repair

Tax deductible
Dear Friends of West Hill Pond,

The big picture:
The dam at the north end of West Hill Pond is leaking, requiring an expensive repair. If the dam should fail, we would lose 7-10 feet of water depth, dramatically altering the lakefront, the local beaches (e.g. Brodie Park), the boat launch, and the use of this beautiful and special place.

The details:
We're asking for donations to pay for the West Hill Pond dam repair by mid-September. The plan is to lower the lake betweeen 3 - 5 feet by October 1 this year to allow for repairs. Based on engineering estimates, the costs for the dam repair will run from $50,000 to $80,000 . Though the towns of Barkhamsted and New Hartford have agreed to provide highway crews and materials for the area surrounding the project, the financial burden of the dam repair falls on us, those who live on or enjoy the use of the lake.

If the repairs are not made, the State of Connecticut may require the dam be left open to relieve pressure on the dam and prevent flooding. This would have the same negative effects on the local beaches and waterfronts, lowering of lake depth by 7-10 feet indefinitely.

All donations will go to the West Hill Pond Association, which is set up as a Charitable Nonprofit Organization - 501(c)(3). Your contribution to the association is tax deductible as per IRS guidelines.

Any contribution is greatly appreciated!
