NOTE:  This campaign is now closed.  The goal has been met within just hours of it's posting.  God bless you all.

Dear friends,

I loved Wesseh so much.  He was master musician who built his own guitar, even while suffering almost complete blindness.  This man was a light in Liberia.  He was also my friend.

Soon after seeing him in the video above, I contacted his friends in Monrovia and started raising funds to provide him with a home and food.  Together with Sach from O!Chips and Pastor George Monten Toe, we made sure this light of Liberia had a home.

(It crushes me to have to report this...)  Wesseh Freeman was tragically killed by a motorist in his hometown of Monrovia, Liberia on Tuesday, February 27.  He was just 41 years old.

Pastor George and I are raising enough money to give him a simple funeral.

This campaign is being administered by me and implemented by Pastor Toe.   The funeral expenses are shown in US dollars (US money is used in Liberia) and are as follows :

Funeral home cost: $600
A simple casket: $ 200
Spot for burial and tomb $100
Clothes for the body $10
Total $ 950 USD

Additional expenses:
Gofundme fees:  2.9% of all money raised plus 30 cents per donation
Money transfer fees via Western Union:  $124
Liberian law dictates that a percentage transferred money be converted to Liberian dollars, which greatly reduces value of overall transfer.

Any additional money collected will go to the Immersion Outfitters Ministry in Monrovia, Liberia and their ongoing effort to build a school for the poorest children.  (Wesseh was supposed to be a music teacher when it was completed.)

Pastor George says the school will be named after Wesseh Freeman.

I loved that man.  He deserves a proper funeral.

I got a phone call from Pastor George today as a follow up to everything. He spent some time with Wesseh's sister and elderly mother yesterday after his church service. He wanted to be there to help them through the bereavement process. (George is a super hero to me.)

He asked if a small portion of the overflow funds could go to Wesseh's family. The initial fundraiser said that any extra money would go toward the school. However, I managed to find some other funds and we've sent them to Liberia to help mother and sister.

In happier news, several of us Wesseh fans had sent a 55 drum of children's clothes to Liberia way back in December. We wanted to help with the kids in his church. After more than two months, the barrel finally arrived in Monrovia and George picked it up today. I can't wait to see photos.

Selah.

You guys did a wonderful thing. Thank you.

Wesseh was laid to rest at 10am this morning in Monrovia, Liberia, near his church. He was surrounded by family and friends. Thank you all for your support during this hard time.

Your generosity paid for his entire funeral. You also raised an additional $1700 that will be directly used to build a school in Monrovia that will bear his name.

As one of the admins of his Facebook page, ( https://www.facebook.com/WeesayLiberia/) I would like to keep it going as a tribute for this great musician and wonderful man. It will also be a way to update you on the school that will be built bearing his name.

Celebrate his life. He is with King Jesus.

Thank you all for donating. You have raised enough to pay for Wesseh's funeral and then to contribute a substantial amount toward the school that will bear his name.

I will be ending the campaign now. Those of you who follow my emails and/or videos will eventually see other ways to help with the school that will bear Wesseh's name.

God bless you all.

THANK YOU ALL FOR OUR GENEROSITY. Wesseh's funeral has been paid for by your generous donations. You helped us raise the funds within just 2 hours of posting.
Wesseh will be laid to rest this Saturday in Monrovia, Liberia. When I get the details, I'll post them here.

Any additional donations made over the goal will be put toward the school Pastor George has been building for Wesseh's church. I am told the school will be named after Wesseh in his honor.
