Starting in September 2017 I will be travelling to Cambodia with a German Organization known as VIA (Verein fuer Internationaler und Interkultureller Austausch). I will be working in a Cambodian organization known as Bophana which is an Audiovisual Resource Center who are commited to preserving Cambodian culture and the history of the Khmer Rouge. I will be helping the organization wherever help is needed such as working in the archives, researching for upcoming projects, writting reports etc. Bohpana teaches the population about the historical past with the help of media. They have a major archive that citizens can access for free. This voluntary work will be conducted over a course of 12 months.
I was able to take part in such a voluntary service due to the Government funded project called 'weltwaerts'. Most of my funds are provided by the German government. But it is important for us volunteers to raise our own funds to ensure that the next generation of volunteers can also provide a service for other cultures/ organizations.
The funds will be used to fund me and my work abroad and to keep the organixation VIA alive. Any amount will be helpful to keep this program steady. I will be very greatful for the funds. I have also started writting a blog that will help you understand my work here in Cambodia. It also includes my own experiences with the country and the culture.
