Help Brewvies Fight DABC Censorship
Brewvies was founded in 1997 with the purpose of providing a fun, unique atmosphere for adults 21 and over to enjoy great films, food and drink. Brewvies has never had a liquor violation, and has never shown obscene films.
For years Brewvies has dealt with the oppressive Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The DABC has threatened to fine us or suspend or revoke our liquor license, just for showing R-rated films like Deadpool, Hangover 2, Magic Mike XXL and Ted 2. We are fighting for the State of Utah to respect our First Amendment freedom of speech.
The money that we are raising will go towards a legal defense fund to be used for legal fees seeking an injunction against the enforcement of a statute that violates our freedom of speech. If there are any funds left over from our legal battle, we will use the funds for a public celebration of our freedom of speech!
This is a fight that is important to all individuals 21 and over who cherish their freedom of speech. We are ready to fight back. We are greatful for any support you can provide.
Please watch the following stories for some additional details:
Brewvies vs. the DABC Rocky Anderson interview on KSL Radio:
Brewvies is thrilled to announce that we have WON our First Amendment case against the Utah Department of Alcohol Beverage Control.

We couldn't have done it without your help. Stay tuned for a special "Thank you" to all Brewvies supporters.
Know that your efforts made a difference, and have preserved your right to enjoy an adult beverage while watching your favorite mainstream movies in the State of Utah.
This effort cost Brewvies, a small but successful Salt Lake City business, a tremendous amount of money, so any continued support is appreciated.
It’s been a long, challenging year, and the fight is not yet over. We owe you, our supporters and patrons:
• A huge thank you;
• An update on what has happened so far in the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (DABC) prosecution against Brewvies; and
• A reminder that our legal fees are enormous and your help is still needed.
Running a thriving business that provides adults (21 and over) mainstream movies rated PG, PG-13 and R in a relaxed environment is rewarding, but the legal battle is time consuming. We’re literally working as hard as we can to maintain the business, and fund the ongoing legal proceedings.
Here are two updates printed in the Salt Lake Tribune since we last posted:
Our legal bills are in the stratosphere.
This is a fight not just for Brewvies’ right to exist; it is a fight for the First Amendment. Everyone who attends Brewvies is 21 and older. The state should not be able to tell adults that you can’t have a drink while watching a mainstream movie in a licensed establishment.
There are bars and restaurants next door to general audience movie theaters throughout the state. Individuals may consume alcoholic beverages, walk next door and then view an R-rated movie. It is irrational and unconstitutional to target Brewvies, which restricts admission to age 21 and over, yet allow general audience movie theaters to admit individuals into an R-rated movie who may have consumed alcohol.
Since this fight started one year ago, the state of Utah has spent hundreds of thousands of your tax dollars to enforce DABC’s position that many mainstream R-rated movies are not allowed at Brewvies.
That’s what we are up against.
Ways you can help:
1. Make a Contribution – Choose from one of the rewards offered.
2. Share this update with your social network.
3. Display a window sign announcing your support. The state’s position is that the community doesn’t want Brewvies to show these movies; show them that we do!
4, Attend the upcoming special fundraisers showing the Freedom Film Series.
In response to Amber McEwan's concern, this is the response from the owner's of Brewvies: "Yes, we are the owners of Brewvies, and have set up this fundraiser on gofundme. The link from our website, Facebook and Twitter leads straight to the campaign and there is no way we would allow fraudulent posting to these sites, or programming on our website. Feel free to call Brewvies to verify this if that would satisfy the concern. The number is 801-322-3891." Regards, Colin Stevens
Brewvies shouldn't have to beg for money to fight unconstitutional and oppressive government. This SHOULD come from your representation IN GOVERNMENT. However, Utah government is OWNED by the Mormon religion which wants to govern your morals, just like the Muslim religion.
Why is this still open for people to donate? Brewvies won and didn’t have to pay for shit.
I did donate as well :).
I am from Utah & it will always be hometown. I am in Orlando, FL now but you have my support all the way. GOD BLESS EVERYONE :).
What is a VIP Pass? What's the benefit?
How do we know that [the owner of] Brewvies is behind this Fundraiser and it's not a scam?
