FIVE ALARM FIRE HALL - SURVEY

Central Fire Hall

Central fire hall supporters jumped onto the GoFundMe engine to raise $20,000 to   start restoration of a rare 1920 fire station in downtown Welland Ontario.

The not-for-profit Central Station Education Initiative will use the money for a study (designated substance survey) of possible hazardous materials in the almost                  century old building.

It will also use it for immediate repairs, such as replacing broken windows, plugging water leaks, fixing eves troughs and general clean up of the classic building used for storage for more than a decade.

Central Station Education Initiative leases the three-story heritage building from the City of Welland.   It will create a display of life in a 1920's era fire station as well as     honor Welland and Niagara Region firefighters and other emergency workers.

Through a donation and membership, you can help preserve a Downtown Welland
treasure, the Central Fire Station. You can celebrate our firefighting past as well as    contribute to enhancing the city by polishing this jewel.

The Central Station Education Initiative (CSEI) will use your donation to upgrade and promote the unique 1920 fire hall.

It will spotlight firefighting and emergency service heritage in Welland and Niagara Region as well as honor those who serve and have served.

CSEI, a non-profit group, has a five-year lease to turn the unused city-owned fire hall into a self-sustaining attraction for Downtown Welland.

It will use the stunning setting with its fire hall contents for an energetic display of     firefighting heritage for residents and visitors.  On the upper two floors of the three-storey fire hall, it will lease office and other space to generate income.  The non-profit society will also seek heritage grants from governments and foundations.

Central Fire Station will join the Main Street Bridge, Welland Farmers Market, Civic Centre, Welland Museum and the Recreational Canal to strengthen the appeal of
the scenic downtown Welland.
