Fund for Co.Clare's Syrian Refugees

Donation protected
Please make a donation of money or items to help the Syrian refugee families settle in in County Clare:

The war in Syria has displaced 9.5 million people so far and as you may know 9 Syrian families have recently been resettled in County Clare as part of an EU wide agreement. These families will have a lot of adjustment to do to their new circumstances, they will have to learn a new language, new customs and will have to recover from what they have already endured.   Apart at all from the danger, trauma and difficulty that these young families have faced, they have also lost everything they owned.

Each family has spent between two and four years living in Refugee Camps in Lebanon and as a result of this they have almost no personal possessions.  While the Government has supplied them with housing as part of its international obligations, there is a big difference between a house and a home and we want to get togther and gather the things that will make the parents and children feel at home and feel ready to participate in the communities they have joined.  We are certain that there are many many people in County Clare who would like to help with  this and so we at Clare PPN (www.clareppn.ie) have decided to try to make it easy.

On Clare Public Participation Network's website, facebook and below this post we have shared a list of items needed by the families.  It is our hope that people like you will donate these items to us (if you have any of these items, new or secondhand and in good working order please email [email redacted])  and if not that you might make a donation of money however small or big you like here so that the items can be purchased for them.

Who are we?
Sarah Clancy who is Clare Public Participation Network's resource officer will be responsible for administering this campaign.  All the funds raised will be used to purchase items for the families with advice from Clare Immigrant Support Centre http://www.clareimmigrantsupportcentre.com/    who are the resettlement officers for the Syrian refugees in County Clare.

We will keep this donations page open for the next three weeks and when that period has elapsed the money will be transferred to the Resettlement Workers who will use it to purchase the items still needed for the families.
Please note that if any Business/Sports Club/ Group or individual would like to sponsor some of the items we would also be most delighted.

What do they need:

9 child proof fire guards designed to fit around stoves

9 Good Umbrellas

Sets of waterproof pants, jackets and wellingtons for children and adults.

Good quality gardening tools (Forks, Shovels, Trowels – they are dying to start planting veg gardens)

Bicycles for adults and children down to the age of 7 (it will be a while before they have the resources for cars etc)

Cycling helmets and high viz jackets for adults and children

Televisions – we need working soar- view ready televisions for all 9 houses (to help with language learning and just in general)

Working laptops for the younger people, hopefully ones with DVD playing capacity.

We will delete items from this list as we get them promised. Please share it widely and give a great welcome to these families.

Thanks in advance on behalf of Clare PPN :-) Please share this campaign widely - even if people could donate 5 euros it would increase very quickly.

In the middle of the biggest crisis of migration in decades we are certain Clare people will take this  opportunity to play their part.
