Sharing midwifery skills = saving lives in Liberia

We are raising funds to go to Liberia to share life saving knowledge with our midwifery sisters in Liberia with the charity Life for African Mothers. Thank you for reading our fundraising page.

The maternal death rate in Subsaharan Africa is highest in the world.
In countries like Sierra Leone, Chad and Liberia a mother has a lifetime risk as high as 1:17 of dying in childbirth.

Life For African Mothers provides free life saving medication to pregnant women in Subsaharan Africa to reduce the risks of death in pregnancy and childbirth from postpartum haemorrhage.
Alongside sending life saving medication, Life for African Mothers also facilitate skill sharing workshops where UK trained midwives facilitate 4 day workshops to update local midwives in lifesaving clinical skills.

We are a group of 4 midwives - three from Watford General Hospital, Hertfordshire and one from Great Western Hospital, Swindon who have chosen to go to Liberia to volunteer with Life for African Mothers this April 2019 to facilitate in their skill sharing workshops.
Corina, Becky & Hayley are going 1-14 April while Kay is aiming to go later in the year.
Despite not being asked we are aiming to raise as much as possible for the charity to contribute toward our flights (which are around £850 each).
Every penny raised (including gift aid) will go directly to the very small charity Life for African Mothers.
For less than £1 per dose a woman's life can be saved with the lifesaving drug Misoprostil which helps treat and prevent catastrophic postpartum heamorrhage. Life for African Mothers is a very small charity, there are no middleman, advertising agencies, etc.
Every penny we raise will be go directly to saving a mothers life through medication and education.
Anything you can spare to help us reach our goal would be gratefully appreciated.
