Please help us continue our work!

Tens of thousands of refugees are still stranded in Greece.

Since the closure of the huge unofficial camp of Idomeni and the opening of smaller, tucked away camps, the refugees on Greece's mainland  are no longer splashed across the headlines, but the overseas wars and persecutions have not stopped, and people are still arriving – risking their lives for the chance of safety in Europe.

Since May 2016, the We Are Here project has been inside the camp of Nea Kavala, supporting the communities who live there, and we need your financial support in order to continue running our activities.

Many of the people here have been through very traumatic experiences and are now faced with a lengthy wait - of several years for most people now -in anonymous and degrading conditions. A lack of support, routine, information and occupation can take a big toll on people’s health and wellbeing.

With a  child-friendly space for the smallest ones in camp, weekend activities for chidren of all ages, a youth club for teenagers, a social space for adults with books, games and access to computers, English language classes of a wide range of levels, an Info Hub where we support people to access helpful information, and a women’s space where we run female-only activities and classes,  the We Are Here project creates an opportunity to learn, create, socialize, share, and build knowledge, confidence and connections.

Money donated to the We Are Here community centre project is divided between two pots.

75% of donations will go directly to funding material and projects for the centre – building materials to extend our space, photocopying, distributions, buying educational materials, art, textile and sports supplies, and buying basic need items or educational and creative resources for individuals in the camp when we see it is needed and helpful.

25% of donations will go to helping with the running costs of the project.   Our team works for free and all volunteers who come to join us fund their own flights and food and make a monthly contribution towards the volunteer accommodation and running of the two project cars taking us to and from camp several times a day, but in order to put petrol in the cars and reduce the cost of accommodation to make this a viable project for people to stay longterm (which makes the project and our services so much better) we also need help from you!
