The Fight of Ella's Life

Donation protected
Ella Integlia is a vivacious 8th grader at Davisville Middle School in North Kingstown, RI.  Ella LOVES reading, getting together with girlfriends for homework sessions and sleepovers, and dancing her heart out at four dance classes a week.  She plays violin for middle school strings, is an honors student and a Girl Scout, and dreams of meeting Taylor Swift. She is a true girly girl and loves fashion and makeup. She is an absolute light to her caring family, her many friends, her teachers - and her oncologists - because Ella is battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) for the second time in her young life.

Ella was diagnosed the first time in fifth grade, endured countless hospital stays at Hasbro Children's Hospital including an initial 6-week stay, intensive chemotherapy treatments, bone marrow biopsies, spinal taps, and blood and platelet transfusions. Her weekly chemo treatments continued for two years, and Ella was able to persevere and KICK CANCER'S BUTT, going into remission last year. She never stopped smiling.

Then in April 2019, just last month, Ella and her family were devastated to learn that the leukemia had returned. She was admitted immediately to Hasbro where she has remained for treatment. Her current treatment is much more intense than the first time and she will need a bone marrow transplant.

The cost of Ella's cancer treatment care is extraordinary due to multiple required hospital stays of a month or more, the treatments she receives there, and the many life saving medications she takes each day. This is now the second time her family is enduring the onslaught of hospital bills. Her bone marrow transplant will likely take place at Boston Children's Hospital and will have its own protocol and medications.

The stakes are high and Ella and her family need our support.

Thank you for helping to show Ella and her family that we are a caring community, we support her, and we are willing to donate to alleviate some of the intense financial burden at a time when her family needs to focus on just one thing: Ella.

A blood stem cell/bone marrow drive will take place on Thursday, May 23 from 1:30- 6:30pm at the North Kingstown Town Offices on Fairway Dr. next to the high school. A simple cheek swab is all that is required to join the registry. Donors must be between the ages of 18-44.  A Facebook event has been set up here .
