You know that split second that changes your every day life? Well it happened to my Mom.
You all know the amazing mother I have and the way she brightens everyone's day and brings her artistry to the Coachella Valley. Her beautiful hand crafted luminaries are only out shone by her smile and generosity. She has brought this craft to the Palm Springs Village Fest for over 20 years.
My Mom, Susan Durazo was enjoying an evening out and dancing when that freak accident happened and she tore her ACL and meniscus in her right knee. The excruciating pain radiated through her leg, yet she managed to make it home, crying all the way.
This phenomenal, self-employed, hard working woman was perplexed as to what happened. Luckily she was able to get an MRI to determine the damage done. It was more extensive than thought. Surgery is imperative. However.....Mom doesn't have insurance and works two jobs just to scrape together the money needed to support herself.

Her work as an artist requires a lot of physical labor and without the use of her knee, she can't make ends meet.

She needs help getting the surgery to get back on her feet (literally). Unfortunately Medi-Cal isn’t an option. Susan's income is only a couple dollars over the threshold of their coverage.
Mom has always been athletic and energetic. This injury has really caused her not only horrible pain, but the stress and worry of how she will be able to function if she doesn't get the surgery very soon. If she does not have the repair done her knee will lock up and be irreparable.

Won't you help my Mom to return to her love of creativity and joy? Her livelihood has been impacted and critically crushed due to this.

The funds needed to cover some of the cost of the surgery is approximately $20,000. This includes the cost for the surgeon, operating room, anesthesiologist, medication and therapy. And this doesn't even include the cost of lost wages.
