For the third consecutive year, I will be heading back to Whitedog, a community consisting of about 2000 Anishinabe natives who reside near Kenora, ON.
Over time, the people of Whitedog have endured immense hardship in various forms. These include toxic waste being dumped into nearby water supplies and generations of suffering through abuse in the residential school system. Though Whitedog has survived, the mistreatment they have endured has taken its toll on the people. In the struggle to battle against injustice, many on the reserve today face problems with substance use and depression as a result. The question you may now ask is how can we move forward from here?
This year I've committed to going to Whitedog with a team of passionate, dedicated individuals from July 20-27. The mission organizes and runs three different ministries based on age group, ranging from children to young adults. Through these ministries, we provide the opportunity for worship, group discussion, and organized activities. These settings allow for the creation of long-term relationships in which we support one another towards a future of hope and vision. This team has gone to Whitedog over the last 15 years and has seen significant changes take place within the reserve. This includes an increase in the number of youth who have graduated high school, and furthermore, strive for higher education.
My goal this mission is to strengthen the relationships I've previously established and continue to build new ones. I'm also putting my faith into God that He will use me to do things beyond my expectations. This mission remains very dear to my heart because it is where I discovered my passion and calling in life. It is in Whitedog where I realized that I wanted earnestly to pursue the path through medical school to one day become a medical missionary. By returning each year to Whitedog, my dream becomes more and more vivid, as does my conviction to love and care for God's people. I have truly been blessed with a vision for my life.
In order to go on this mission, I need to raise $550 to cover the cost of this trip. Any funds raised over this amount will go towards my younger brother's fundraising as he is also going for the 5th consecutive year. We sincerely need people to pray for us as prayer can go a long way in support! If you would consider partnering with us through financial support, prayer, or any other way you see fit, I would tremendously appreciate it. I'm ecstatic to see what God has planned for myself and the mission this year!!
