Woodworking Shop for B. F. Yancey
Donation protected
Hello,
We are a small rural school that struggles to have students invested in their learning and school. For the 2015-16 school year our faculty is implementing Market Expo. The students are cooking, crafting, and building products that they will sell at the end of year market.
Part of the reason for embarqing on such an ambitious school wide project was to have the students excited about coming to school. Last year we had one of the highest absentee rates in our district. We feel we have achieved success, as thus far in the school year we have one of the lowest absentee rates. Kids are excited to come to school and work on these meaningful projects.
This multi-age project is an all encompassing learning experience, as students use thier academic skills to create products for the market. Students measure, calculate, develope marketing stratigies, and learn how economic terms take real meaning.
The money donated to the Woodworking club would be used to buy power tools, hand tools, glue, clamps, safety glasses and building supplies. Our first project was building reindeer out of scraps of 2 x 4s that were donated by a teacher. My partner, Matt Hicks, and I bring our personal tools to keep the shop humming along. Students are now in the process of deciding what they would like to build next.
We would be thankful for any donation.
Sincerely,
Richards Maxwell
