Heather's Haven

Donation protected
Heather was diagnosed with bipolar and borderline personality disorder in her teens.  She was extremely intelligent and was told by her high school assistant principal "you could have a full ride scholarship to the college of your choice if you will apply yourself".

However, due to her illness she made unwise choices and spent most of her teen years in a group home to help supervise her, provide counseling services and protect her from her choices.

When she turned 18 her parents lost guardianship of her and was told by her psychiatrist she would have to be mentally retarded for them to maintain guardianship over her.  Suddenly, at 18 years old Heather was expected to function normally and independently in a world she had not been able to function in as an adolescent.  The mental health system failed Heather.

Due to Heather's poor choices she found herself incarcerated. She was bonded out of jail on October 5, 2015 and she was found dead on October 7, 2015. She was only 25 years old. Her death is being investigated, therefore, no other details can be revealed at this point. More information will provided as permitted.

Heather did things she wasn't proud of but she had a huge heart and loved and trusted others to a fault. It was her dream to share her experiences with others to help them overcome the same struggles and obstacles she faced. Through Heather's Haven her dream will become a reality.

Heather's mother, Alecia Roberts has envisioned Heather's Haven;  a safe haven for young women like Heather, a house where troubled young women can go for shelter, food, safety, mental health advocacy, drug counseling, legal advocacy, educational assistance, help finding jobs, transportation to and from school and appointments; help to rise above and overcome their circumstances and succeed.  The first Heather's Haven will be located in Hope Mills, North Carolina to help young ladies overcome the same struggles Heather faced in the town where she died.  It's Mrs. Robert's goal to offer young women a healthy alternative to the "help" that they are being offered now.
