Helping Wayne W.- a student in need

Donation protected
Dear Community Members,

I have been teaching at Hillwood High School for over ten years, and it is with great cause that I am reaching out to you in hopes of your help and support.  One of our amazing students, currently a junior at Hillwood, is experiencing extreme hardship, and he could really use your help to get through this holiday season (and beyond).  Many teachers care deeply about this student and his extenuating circumstances, especially with the approaching holidays, and we are asking for your help in helping us to support him.

Our student, Wayne, has been living with his mother, and only his mother, for his entire life (no other family).  We recently learned that Wayne’s mother has been in the ICU at a hospital here in Nashville suffering from kidney failure, amongst many other severe health issues.  Wayne still comes to school every day and does his work.  After school, he takes the city bus to go to the hospital to sit by his mother’s side for every evening/night, and then he takes the city bus after dark back to his apartment where he is alone for the night until he wakes up the next morning to go to school and start this routine all over again.  He has been alone and struggling to stay strong for his mother.  Teachers have been buying him groceries, helping him learn to clean the apartment and do laundry/dishes, etc.  He has been trying to keep up with everything on his own, as a 16 year old dealing with a terminally-ill mother, school work, and etc.

Wayne’s mother just passed away in the hospital (November 16, 2015).  He has no close immediate family, his future is uncertain, and he is scared/upset/etc.  We obviously cannot control all of the circumstances and future decisions that must be made, but what we CAN do is provide him with support, care, and comfort to get him through this holiday season.

We are asking for ANY charitable donations for Wayne—money, gift cards (I will supervise and go with him to make sure money/gift cards are spent wisely).  He is a size 3XL in shirts/coats/hoodies, and a size 14 in shoes.  Gift cards to Wal-Mart or Target would be ideal for him—we could go and let him pick out clothes, groceries, and even some books/games to occupy his mind during this difficult time.  If you wish to send a monetary donation, you can send cash or checks to me (Amanda Hyatt); I will collect all cash and start a fund/account at a bank for him to help him not only through the holidays, but for the months ahead. Any gifts would be appreciated, or any other contributions (even a small amount will go a long way in helping him!)  There is no deadline for donations; he will need a lot of support in the future.

If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me!  Thank you in advance for your help and support of an outstanding teen during his time of need.
