Wayne's Warriors-Wayne/Callie Crull

Donation protected
I wanted to set up this GoFundMe account for my friends from high school. Wayne and Callie were high school sweethearts at Washington High Scool. Many people, especially those in Wayne and Callie's hometown, Cedar Rapids, Iowa have expressed a desire to help the family after Wayne was diagnosed with ALS. This fund has been set up so that people are able to contribute to help the Crull's with expenses for Wayne's necessary medical care, medical equipment, and in-home caregivers so Callie can continue to work.  Please feel free to share this with anyone who might want to help. Here is Wayne's story:

Wayne Crull was diagnosed with ALS in February of 2015. Life expectancy of a person diagnosed with ALS is 2-5 years from onset of symptoms, although, some people live longer. ALS is a progressive, neurodegenerative disease that causes muscle weakness and eventually loss of the persons ability to walk, dress, write, speak, swallow, and breath. There is no cure for the disease and only one approved drug that extends life only a few months.

When Wayne and his family moved to Oregon in 2008, he discovered one of his greatest passions. He became an avid mountain climber. His other passion was Crossfit which helped him train for his climbs. He was training for his biggest climb yet, to summit Mt. Rainer. This is when he started to notice a change in his hand strength, pain in his shoulders and upper back, and muscle spasms (fasciculation) in his arms. Assuming it was due to intensified training and most likely a pinched nerve, he didn't think too much about it. After a year of this progressively getting worse he decided to go see a doctor in February of 2015. Which is when he received the devastating diagnosis.

It has been nearly two years since his diagnosis. The disease is progressing more rapidly than expected. It has been devastating to his family and friends to watch this disease progress so rapidly, taking over his life and robbing him of the ability to do many of his greatest passions. Wayne had to quit working in January of 2016. He now needs assistance in nearly all aspects of life which are provided primarily by his wife of 33 years Callie, his daughters Mallary and Bianca, and caregivers who come to the house daily so Callie can continue to work. He uses a motorized wheelchair to get around and a feeding tube to eat most meals and take medication. Those are just a couple of the things required for care and quality of life. There is significant costs for Wayne's medical care, medical equipment, and home health care.

Please consider making a donation. Your contributions will help the Crull's with expenses for Wayne's necessary medical care, medical equipment, and in-home caregivers so Callie can continue to work. I greatly appreciate your contribution and I know the Crull' s will as well.
