I am currently in stage 5 renal failure and desperately need a kidney transplant. We are evaluating living donors and I hope to have transplant surgery in the near future. As you can imagine the expenses are enormous. Due to my previous health issues, I have been ruined financially, and I need your help.
You see, I've been battling Crohn's disease since 2004. After many months of chemotherapy, I was diagnosed with TTP (Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura) a rare blood disorder. My organs began to shut down which caused pancreatitis. I was on a 24 hr death clock. During 10 days of Apheresis, a process to clear my blood, I was living in the palliative care unit. The prognosis was not good but my faith in God and the support of my family and friends pulled me through. I’ve had several bouts of malnutrition, contracted MRSA and anemia among other illnesses. In 2011, my entire colon was removed along with some really sensitive parts. Complications made the recovery a real challenge. The surgery took a team of Doctors and 11 hours to complete. I've had 6 more surgeries to correct hernias in my abdomen and obstructions in my small intestine. I have also had my ileum relocated from my right side to my left side.
Now, once again I am facing dire medical complications. My kidneys are failing. With all the trauma my body has been through, my bladder and kidneys are just giving out. I have an immediate need for a kidney. The costs are great. So much is necessary before and after surgery. The average kidney transplant costs approximately $335,000. And that’s only the beginning, even with health insurance, which will cover the cost of the transplant, I will face significant expenses related to the surgery. I will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to my survival as the transplant itself. Because we must travel 200 miles from home to the transplant center for evaluations and doctors’ appointments, we will incur substantial travel expenses for each trip.
