With a motto of “pray, work, play,” Waupoos Family Farm has been providing vacations to low-income families since 1975.
Over our 40-year history, we have enabled over 7,000 families to enjoy a vacation together, and find rest, fellowship, and hope.
Summer is the peak season of the year at Waupoos, with a new group of families welcomed every week during July and August. Our essential programming and logistical needs simply cannot be met without our dedicated summer students. These students play an indispensable role in our summer vacations by organizing activities, helping families, lifeguarding, performing basic upkeep, and more.
Waupoos has enjoyed the privilege of Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) funding ever since the program started in 2007. Over its 10-year period, CSJ has helped us provide good jobs, great skills, and amazing life experiences to over 40 students.
However, this year a new attestation requirement was added to the CSJ application. As a Christian, faith-based charitable organization, we are not able to attest to a statement that violates our moral and religious beliefs and identity. As a result, our application for CSJ funding this year has been denied.
Waupoos has maintained a long-standing policy of welcoming visitors from all backgrounds and walks of life. Waupoos has not, does not, and will not discriminate against families or individuals on any basis. The principal requirement for a family to apply and stay at Waupoos is to meet Statistics Canada’s Low-Income definition. Our commitment to serving families in a non-discriminatory manner is a fruit of our Christian beliefs, identity, spirituality, and practices, which affirm the dignity and sanctity of all persons.
We have created this GoFundMe page to reach out to the community and people of good will for help. We are in urgent need of support, in order to be able to hire summer students to help us provide vacations for families who aren’t otherwise able to afford such an opportunity.
A summer vacation may seem like a small thing. But to the families we serve, they are life-changing opportunities, fostering best childhood and family memories, and offering happiness, healing, safety, and growth.
