Water Walk for Wells

Global Initiative is a group of students at Gulf Islands Secondary School trying to lend a helping hand and make a difference in the world.  As a group we do a little bit of everything - from holding bake sales at luch to hosting large community events to support local and global organizations. 

This time around we have decided to partner with Fernwood Elementary, in support of their annual Water Walk -- which helps raise money to build wells in clean-water deficient villages in India. The objective of the Water Walk is to let the Fernwood students experience what it is like to have to walk for water, like millions of  children in developing countries do on a daily basis.

Each year, the students of Fernwood participate in a trek to St Mary Lake to collect water and carry it back to their school.  The students gather pledges from the family, neighbours, etc. for the amount of water they carry back from the lake,  which is later used on the school gardens.

This year, the Fernwood Elementary community has raised it's goal in order to build three wells in different villages -- an objective which Global Initiatives is more than excited to help meet! 

Everyone deserves clean drinking water, please help us make that possible.
