Water in the desert is nice to have

Someone decided to drive a truck over my water line, the one that runs between my house and the meter near the street.  This water line is the sole source of water for my home!  This happened right after New Year, too.  Perhaps it was the brittle pipe, perhaps it was the frozen ground (which we're not used to in Arizona) perhaps it was the shock of the truck driving over the line when the ground was soft.

I checked with my homeowner's insurance.  They won't pay a cent, because the break happened outside the house.  The city won't help either because this happened between the meter and the house.  This leaves me holding the bag, without water, and in danger of the property being condemned if I don't fix it within a couple of months.

In any case, I'm completely broke.  Last summer I bought a home and right after that my dear spouse had a medical emergency and that left us in the hole.  Car repairs just before Christmas left us further in the hole and drained our emergency reserves.  I work so I'll be saving slowly and doing all the overtime I can get - but in the meantime...

No showers.  No dishwashing.  No flushing except with water that I carry in.  Drinking water has to be bought - that part isn't new.  However, it's hard to keep clean to go to work when you're doing sponge baths every day and using cornstarch for dry shampoo.  Not to mention the effect it has on my dear spouse, who can't work right now, and my cats.

I would like to remain a productive member of society and continue to provide for my family, so I'm asking for your help.  I don't ask much as I know things are tough for everyone right now.  However, just sharing this story would help a lot too and I thank you for it.

Here is Nezumi, 12.  She says "No water is just fine, I don't like baths anyway."

This is Shinji, my 15 year old rescue.  He says "I'm going to agree with Nezumi as long as she doesn't swat me.  Again."

Here's another view of the spot, under which a leak lurks...

All that brick means it's harder to dig.  Finally, here's me.   Kinda goofy looking, I know.

I just got a better estimate so I'm dropping the request amount down to $4000. No sense asking for what I don't need.

Talked to plumbers, got an estimate. No hope of paying it but I continue to look for financing. Nezumi says "It's okay, we don't like baths anyway."
